On this last day of Child Abuse Prevention month, I have to share this precious video Uncle Cheese sent us from our days in the hospital. 15 days after Baby Waylon was almost killed & permanently disabled by a real-life monster… Waylon is moved from the PICU where he was admitted 12 days earlier with skull fractures, brain and spine bleeding, innumerable retinal hemorrhages and extensive body fractures… And showed us he was a true survivor… By taking 100% of his first bottle feed after being on a feeding tube for almost 2 weeks (which is extremely rare we are told at the time)… And raising his fist here for the first time since he was viciously assaulted by someone he should have been able to trust.👊🏼 His fist was a sign of his resilience… and a sign of hope to us. 🙏🏼 🤞🏼 And while he can’t raise his right fist anymore due to paralysis & spasticity from the abuse he suffered… Waylon’s resilience lives on… and is as strong as ever.💪🏼 And as for the monster? Well, we don’t think of him much. But we do know one thing… Long-awaited justice is coming at last this summer. And no monster with a lack of conscience can kill this sweet, magical boy. 🩵 But… The monster can – and DID – seal his OWN fate when he decided to assault this precious newborn baby boy. No mercy for monsters. None. Nada. Not one single morsel of mercy. Let’s give him the life sentence he deserves. Yesterday was one of our favorite days of the whole year – our 4th annual HalloWAY at @mrbones !🎃🎃 My heart is filled with joy, just thinking about it! I am humbled by the generosity of @mrbones and the amazing @mml_pr & Mr. Bones teams yet again. Thank you for not only hosting the most magical event of the season for our child abuse victims & families and our disabled community…but for providing us all with a core memory that will never, NEVER be forgotten. What you may not realize is something we were reminded of by multiple parents of disabled children who were our guests – “We don’t get invited to events like this…EVER.” 🥹 We have at least one guest every year tell us this. It makes me cry and makes me smile all at the same time. And it reminds us why we do this – and why we always do this as long as we can.🫶 @mrbones – You have helped us provide a warm, safe space that is not only accessible but welcoming to OUR people. I was so honored to serve on the Host Committee and as the “Voice Of God” announcer for the @stepupwomensnetwork Inspiration Awards for my 8th year in a row.🫶 And I was thrilled that with our joint efforts and generous sponsors and donors, we raised over $860,000 to support mentorship programs for girls nationwide, with a goal to reach $1 million from two events in Los Angeles and Chicago. ( I’ll be an announcer at the Chicago event as well) But this year, I was really moved by the community of Step Up in an even more awe-inspiring way than usual. I was introduced to Step Up in 2012 by my best friend @SarahJaneMorrisTheActress. Every year, we even get ready for the awards together at my house which is a little bonus quality time for us. Through Sarah, I met my first Step Up mentee, @rosyannaby , who ended up graduating from Berkeley. And then, in 2015, introduced my dear friend, @KelseyJpatel to Step Up. She is now a devoted National Board Member. At this year’s awards, Sarah & I not had the pleasure of not only introducing our dear friend, fashion designer @KellyGoLightly to Step Up – but the honor of wearing her new collection’s luxurious vintage-inspired designs. Looking back, it’s like everything was in black and white – or even grayscale – until you came into this world and colored it all in. 🌈 Recently, a mom said to me that she was tired and then said, “Oh gosh – look who I’m saying that to. Are you tired all the time?” And I told her, “Not at all. I sleep great!” That’s all because of you – and the perfect, precious, good-hearted, strong, sweet, resilient, hilarious, magical… beautiful boy you are. And good golly do we have fun! SO much fun! 5 years ago today – during the most heartbreaking year of my life… We said goodbye to my beloved 16-year-old “dogter,” Miss Ellie, on National Daughters Day. Life has – and never – will be the same. But she is with us in spirit. In our dreams. And in our memories. And in 2026, Justice for Waylon will mean Justice For Miss Ellie, too.🩷

Fall is one of my favorite times of year to travel 🍂- so I was thrilled to share some of my top fall #DawnsDestinations on @NBCTexasToday yesterday!! ✈️ 🍁 We’ve got everything from… @sheratoncentretoronto hotel @destination_toronto with art, theater, a diverse culinary scene and more… To @hoteltupelo in @MyTupelo for the music and nature lovers with plenty of options for shopping local… To @blackdesertresort in Utah which is like stepping into a painting – and a must-see for the golf-lovers… To @therosehotelpleasanton in the oh-so-charming @VisitTriValley – one of my favorite wine regions with a robust trail scene… And then we’re off to the beautiful historic @RockyWatersInn in @visitgatlinburg featuring beautiful fall foliage, biking and hiking trails and an in-room whiskey program. We were told Waylon might not live past the age of 5 when his brain was permanently damaged by child abuse as a newborn by someone he should have been able to trust. This past Friday, at age 5… He won the Citizenship Award at school.🎉 Uncle Cheese and I were there cheering loudly as Waylon hit the tray of his stander repeatedly with his left hand. His version of clapping and expressing excitement. He knew he was a winner. 🏆 But then again, he always does. While Waylon can’t walk, speak or see, he is in a LAUSD public school with wonderful inclusive support, a motivated, inclusive teacher who works hard to include Waylon in all activities, and Waylon receives in-school physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, vision therapy and support from the most precious friends who love on him each day. 🥰 And at home? My mom has always said, “Waylon lives in a love bubble.” And he does. Between my nonstop kisses and cuddles, we have assembled a loving team of caregivers who always put Waylon’s needs first. Waylon has not heard an angry word since he was hurt at 6 weeks old. Only love. Some folks say that’s why Waylon is so well adjusted – because all of the love.
