Happy birthday to the best of the best: Uncle Cheese @heychrisrichards.🩵 When Waylon was hurt as a newborn, and I instantly became a solo parent, I wondered & worried if my son would ever know a positive male role model after the crime, violence & trauma he endured. I need not have worried. My best friend @heychrisrichards stepped into the role of godfather seamlessly, loving my broken-yet-blessed boy the way he had loved our dog, Miss Ellie, for the past 15 years. He is truly a godfather – a godly man who loves Waylon and thinks of him and his needs & wants the way only a true parent does. There are many men out there trying to be dads. But Chris Richards puts the father in godfather so effortlessly… And loves my sweet son so well… That sometimes I forget I’m doing it alone. Because even when he can’t be here, He always reminds us that… We are never alone. We love you, Uncle Cheese/ Ribsy/ Chris and loved celebrating your birthday today. And we are SO lucky to call you ours.🩵
I’m wearing @AnnTaylor in this photo here and good golly, I felt lovely wearing this suit for tv.🫶 You don’t see me sharing just fashion posts a lot. That’s just never been who I am. For me personally, I just feel like there’s so much to share and only such limited time I have to make a difference so I tend to use my voice for that. But when fashion speaks and takes action, I feel compelled to wear and share. Last week, I taped an @NBCTexasToday segment featuring brands and products that are supporting our California wildfire victims and survivors. The message is to support brands that support victims of this unimaginable tragedy. It’s that simple. One of these is a brand group I have worn since high school – and they are doing SO much to help our neighbors and friends: @AnnTaylor @LOFT & the @KnitwellGroup. While we all know that Ann Taylor is an iconic American sportswear brand rooted in a heritage of wardrobing the working woman and a mission to empower women to navigate the world with confidence and style… What you may not know is that… Upon immediately hearing of the devastating loss in LA and the surrounding areas, LOFT & Ann Taylor immediately acted to donate boxes of new clothing to fire victims through their relationship with @TheAList.US agency. In fact, for weeks now 1 since the fires originally broke out – The A List has been hosting daily gifting for victims, supplying them with wardrobes of Ann Taylor & Loft. Additionally, the brand’s parent company, KnitWell Group, donated thousands of additional items from LOFT, Ann Taylor and our family of brands including new clothing, accessories, shoes, and intimates through their ongoing partnership with Delivering Good. They’re just good people with good hearts. And I felt that alone deserves an outfit post. Please support our California wildfire victims with any donation you can. And please support the brands who support them by consciously purchasing from the heart. *head-to-outfit outfit link will be forthcoming in my stories 🩵
A mullet has never looked SO good.😍😂 Back story: Waylon’s hair had gotten too long and – as handsome as it looked – it wasn’t staying out of his eyes during school & his therapies. I needed to schedule a cut at Tipperary, but with all of the travel for my dad and my work while working within Way’s therapy & school schedule, we just hadn’t found the time. Well, Way’s sweet nanny, Nadalea, is pretty crafty with the trimming shears so while they waited for therapy one day while I was away for work, she did her best – and voila! She looked at it and immediately worriedly said to Way’s OT, “Uh-oh. Dawn’s gonna think it’s a mullet.” And I did. And I do. And I kind of love it.🩵🤗 Few people look good with a mullet. But my little rockstar is one of them.💛 Rest assured – this is a temporary phase, y’all. But a very happy memory I will cherish.
When you’re a blind, disabled little boy and a solo mom…there aren’t as many options to help victims of our LA fires & first responders in person. So we sat down to sing you this little song.🎵🎹 This is our gift to you.🫶 We love LA. We love you.🩵 Song adapted from @RandyNewmanOfficial’s “I Love L.A.” – one of our favorites #PlayWithWay #JusticeForWaylon #LovingWayFoundation
Tomorrow, it will have been five years since my newborn son was almost killed by a living, breathing monster. A monster disguised as a human he should’ve been able to trust. Next month, we go to trial at last to hold that monster accountable for crimes too heinous for most humans to even fathom. As we head into this new year, I ask you to please keep Waylon – and justice for him – at the forefront of your prayers and energy. Pray for the jury serving on a case that will challenge their hearts and faith in men… Pray for our District Attorney to present a powerful case… Mindfully pray for a judge who has compassion for victims and their indelible rights… Pray for privacy and space for our family as we navigate this challenging time and begin our healing journey with this long-awaited life count trial, verdict and sentencing. But also hold fast to the fact that this trial is just the beginning of a new journey for us. And when the monster is held accountable for his actions to the fullest extent of the law, I will be there for every single parole hearing that follows. Because my job after this initial act of justice is to make sure that the monster stays caged where he belongs for life – and that he is never, NEVER released into a naive, trusting society ever again. Tomorrow, we celebrate Waylon – and the miracle that he survived a monster who wished not only to do him harm – but for his total demise. But today, I grieve and mourn and vent… And I am ANGRY. And I look forward to creating legislation that supports our most vulnerable victims rather than the convicted offenders who made them such. Now, we prepare to fight the most important battle of our lives. And it IS a battle of good vs. evil. Monsters vs. angels. And since our angelic Waylon can’t fight or use HIS voice, I fight and use MY voice for him. His silence makes me even louder. Are you ready to be loud with me? #JusticeForWaylon #LovingWayFoundation
2-year-old Levi Anderson was hurt by someone he and his family should have been able to trust. Hosting our first stay at @PrettyInPinkPS in Palm Springs with tiny survivor, Levi, was one of our top-5 life moments. Their joy and excitement and relaxation and FUN (🎉!!) surpassed any and all expectations we had of our @LovingWayFoundation respite stays. Mostly because the Anderson family is just an inspiring survivor-warrior family (Dad is a fighter pilot, even)…and their joy felt like ours.☺️ I will always cherish this moment of welcoming them into their home for the week.🥰 My tiny abuse survivor, Waylon & I know it firsthand – that a vacation where victims are welcomed, taken care of, pampered and loved on – doesn’t only create core memories…but renews spirits that can feel broken, defeated, downtrodden, weak and weathered. My work in the travel and television space has allowed us the warmth and comfort of hosted trips just like that. So we wanted to pay it forward and give our fellow victims’ families that same level of comfort and warmth that we’ve experienced over these past few years. Help us help our abuse survivors and their families find joy by donating to LovingWayFoundation.org/Donate. Today only – a private donor is matching dollar-for-dollar donations up to $10,000. $10,000 funds 2 Loving Way Stays for our victims and their families. Thank you @prettyinpinkps & @wanderluxe_vacationrentals for hosting our first Palm Springs #LovingWayStay. And thank you @joycekiehl & @visitgreaterps for helping us find SO many fun activities for them during their stay. They made beautiful core memories that will never, NEVER be forgotten. And so did we.🫶 Please donate what you can at www.LovingWayFoundation.org/Donate to help keep our Loving Way Stays and child abuse prevention going strong. And if you have a vacation home, hotel, resort, vacation destination that you’d like to talk us about for possible collaboration, or airline miles you’d like to donate, please reach out to me directly.
I am feeling so grateful for all of you this holiday season and for your ongoing support of @LovingWayFoundation. 2024 was a BIG year for Loving Way thanks to our donors, partners, and sponsors! Thank you.🩵🩷 As we approach the new year and the long-awaited start of our trial, I am deeply mindful of the harsh reality that so many survivors of child abuse never see their cases reach trial or experience the justice they deserve. Looking ahead to 2025, Loving Way Foundation remains hopeful and determined to expand our reach and amplify our impact—bringing renewed hope, healing, and joy to families just like us who have endured the unimaginable – impact that is fueled by your generous financial support. A very special note of gratitude for our private donor who is offering a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000 until 12/31/24. Wishing you all a beautiful holiday season filled with love, joy, justice and wonder….and some miracles in there too, perhaps.🫶
Anyone else out there feel like this this week?🩵 Makes us understand the concept of fainting couches a bit more, doesn’t it?☺️ Ice blue coat: @showmeyourmumu White slacks: @trinaturk
A week from today will mark 5 years since it was discovered that my weeks-old godson, Waylon, was being abused by someone he should have been able to trust. Out of his and his mom’s immense pain eventually came a shared vision to help fellow child abuse victims, their families and caregivers in the way they’ve needed support during their long recovery from devastating tragedy. It’s called @lovingwayfoundation . Loving Way’s mission is simple: Offer families opportunities for respite, healing and joy; provide them with resources to help them navigate the often confounding legal, medical and social services systems; raise awareness of the scourge that is child abuse; and strengthen laws and penalties for those who prey upon our most vulnerable. I’m honored to serve on Loving Way’s board, and was witness to much of the remarkable things that Dawn & Waylon and Loving Way accomplished this year. Here are just a few highlights: 🩵 We hosted 5 Loving Way Stays for child abuse victims and their families & caregivers, coordinating all-expenses-paid respite vacations in Palm Springs, Austin, Oceanside, and Anaheim 🩵 We produced and hosted 7 advocacy events, reaching more than 5,000 people in person, and hundreds of thousands more online 🩵 We took on 11 one-on-one advising and mentorship cases, helping victims & their families navigate the dizzying criminal justice, social services and medical systems 🩵 Founder Dawn made 5 public speaking appearances, contributed to 2 child abuse prevention conferences and supported 6 criminal court cases with child abuse or murder charges at their center 🩵 And Dawn appeared on 6 television news shows speaking about Loving Way’s mission, child abuse prevention and child safety How about that?!? ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Dawn and Waylon and their big-hearted Loving Way team are heading into 2025 with plans to make an even bigger impact on this largely unseen and underserved community. If you’re looking to make a charitable donation by year’s end, we’d love to have you join in our fight against child abuse. And to all a good night.🎄❤️ 📍: The Santa Suite at @omnidallas 🎅🏼
Merry Christmas to all!!🎄 This year, newly aged 5-year-old Waylon seems more aware of the spirit of Christmas and Santa.🎅🏼 I remember after our first Christmas morning – spent alone, Waylon & me, in Los Angeles in 2020 after the trauma – I called @heychrisrichards crying in a ball on the floor while Waylon napped after we had “opened gifts.” “He can’t open the presents, Chris. He can’t touch the presents. He can’t feel the presents. He can’t even SEE the presents. This is not the Christmas I imagined for my son. Does he even know what Christmas is?” Chris said something that day that is always with me every Christmas – no matter what life brings our way: “Waylon knows it’s Christmas because of your Christmas spirit. You make it so special for him with the music and the tastes and the dancing and the snuggles that he can FEEL Christmas without seeing a thing, Dawn. He knows it’s Christmas because of how you feel – and how you make him feel.” That. That’s what I needed to hear to… Keep the traditions going… Keep celebrating… Keep trying… All for my son. Sure, it takes a little imagination and belief in magic. But… Isn’t that really what Christmas is all about? From the very beginning, it’s been about believing in the unseen and having faith in the seemingly impossible. Christmas forever. Love, The McCoys & Loving Way Foundation ❤️🫶

That light is shining down on Mayor @JohnEricksonWH for a reason. ✨ We were so honored to attend Mayor Erickson’s swearing in for West Hollywood City Council for his 2nd term last night before we boarded an early plane to Texas this morning. We planned our flight around it, actually. 4 out of 5 West Hollywood residents voted and the choice was resoundingly clear: They wanted John. But perhaps John’s biggest endorsement came from right here: Waylon.🩵 John serves on our @LovingWayFoundation board and is a fierce advocate for – and friend to – our disabled community and child abuse victims. He has supported programming for 4 events in West Hollywood to bring awareness to both the pervasive problem of child abuse and continuing issues around foster care. I don’t know many other leaders who can say that.🙌🏼 Thank you, John, for supporting our children and for taking a strong stand against child abuse. We couldn’t be happier that you’ll serve another 4 years – and we are SO proud to call you our dear friend.🫶
Who needs holiday magic when you’ve got @LargoLosAngeles magic with @NedBrower @SarahJaneMorrisTheActress and the newly beard-free smiles, music & musings of @MarcMaron? Great show, fellas. GREAT show. And, happy birthday weekend, Ned!
Hope your weekend brings you as much JOY as our first visit to an accessible playground – built for disabled kiddos like Waylon – brought us! Waylon was soooo excited and HAPPY! Our guy definitely has a need for speed. Thank you, Uncle Cheese @heychrisrichards for capturing this special moment! We can’t wait to get back to the slide! And, God bless accessible playgrounds – and the cities and sponsors who make them happen!🩵🩷🌈 • Playground: Aidan’s Place on Sepulveda My top: @loft
