Minka Kelly Instagram – In the adventures of Huck Finn, Jim is vital to the story, but his perspective is filtered entirely through Huck. He doesn’t get a ton of depth. That’s what makes this so powerful. It corrects the imbalance.
James isn’t the version we’re taught in school. He’s brilliant. Secretly literate. Fiercely tender. Hiding his mind in plain sight just to survive.
Sometimes, survival is strategy.
I think if schools are still going to require Huck Finn then James should be required and read immediately after.
300 pages went by so fast.
Easy to see why it won the Pulitzer.
