8 years. From Tharangam to Lokah. Two films that were made with an equal amount of love. Two projects with vastly different outcomes. Back in 2019, I did a Q&A on Instagram, and one of the questions I received — a play on the word Tharangam (wave) — was about how it felt not to have tasted success with the film. My answer is in the last slide.* Fellow debutant @dominic_arun, cheers for having chosen to take the stairs when the elevator was unavailable. Cheers for having been a steady friend through the hardest of times. Let’s keep walking. Cheers also to friends who wait for one to catch up with complete faith. Santhy Balachandran — actor, dramaturg, and additional screenplay writer of Lokah — reveals that her character in ‘Masthishka Maranam’ is vastly different from her role in the recently released web series ‘The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang’, though they are both helmed by Krishand. Pourquoi pas? | Why not? A little over a year ago, @shaliniusha won the International Critics Award at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival for Ennennum — a film she made against all odds that asked big questions about the nature of life and love. A film that I will always look back upon with pride. A film that found its people as we travelled with it around the world. Since it’s Shalu’s birthday today, here’s a little video from the @nifffestival award ceremony.
