I am super excited and delighted (and maybe a tinge nervous) to show you all the cover of my new book, GETTING NAKED 🥹 This is my heart broken wide open. It’s a collection of intimate and vulnerable essays, exploring aging, love, friendship, secrets, and acceptance. I didn’t even realize how much I needed to write this book until I started. It helped heal something in me that l’m not sure I would’ve been able to do without writing it. My hope and deep wish is that it will inspire you to resist the negative thoughts in your own head, put yourself first, and let go of any judgement you may feel about yourself or what others may try their damnedest to make you feel. Sometimes when we’re in the thick of a challenging, difficult or traumatic experience we think it will never end. Time helps, but time alone doesn’t heal. It’s what we do with that time. How are we taking care of ourselves? Do we have safe people to talk to? Are we curious about our feelings and doing our best to understand, not suppress or numb? Trauma left unprocessed will dictate your life. EMDR and talk therapy has helped me immensely and now I can walk through certain streets without being retraumatized. I encourage you to get help if you need it and I want you to know, it gets better. I’ve written a few healing meditations in my book that helped me and I hope will be helpful to you. Poncho Barnes had a rough life, but she had nerves of steel and a zest for living her fullest life that has stuck with me all these years. Filming in Texas was an amazing experience. Every weekend for three months, I would train on cutting horses to re-create Ponchos skill on her ranch. And I actually got pretty good at it! (We won’t talk about the time I fell off the horse during a scene 😂) And the flying! Hopping in the biplane, sneaking up during lunch with our stunt pilot to do death drops and twirls in the sky until the producers put a stop to it. (We probably could’ve gotten away with it had they not heard my screams of joy down on the ground while they were in the open field below me 😬) It’s never lost on me how lucky I am to have lived the life I have lived. And I am nowhere near done. 🥰 I am so grateful 🤍
