With abundant water and food, these giants thrive here, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that Botswana has the highest concentration of elephants on the continent. But for youngsters, the drenched landscape comes with unique challenges. While mom can easily plod through deep water channels, calves might struggle in the strong current. Holding on to a tail during a crossing may not always be necessary, but it is a welcome comfort.
