Beverly Joubert Instagram – The waterhole at @greatplainsconservation’s ol Donyo Lodge in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills is a major drawcard for the local wildlife and it’s almost always bustling with life. Zebras must drink daily but their visits to the waterhole are usually fraught with tension. Competition with other animals (and each other) along with the ever-present threat of predators lurking nearby puts these striped grazers on edge. They step in cautiously, their thirst draws them close, but their instincts keep them on edge. Ears flick, hulking bodies shuffle, muscles tighten—one sudden movement can trigger a flee response turning the herd into a blur of black and white.
