Carly Simon’s bold and adventurous fifth studio album hit shelves on April 16, 1975—and marked her third Top 10 album on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 10.
Led by the fiery single “Attitude Dancing” (which became a Top 40 hit), the album also featured fan favorites like “Waterfall” and “After the Storm,” showcasing a new, funkier edge to Carly’s songwriting and sound.
With contributions from luminaries like Carole King, Dr. John, Klaus Voormann, Ringo Starr, and David Sanborn—and an iconic cover shot by the legendary Norman Seeff—PLAYING POSSUM turned heads and made waves. The cover even earned a Grammy nomination for Best Album Package and was later ranked #20 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Album Covers of All Time.
