50 years ago today, PLAYING POSSUM was released into the world! Carly Simon’s bold and adventurous fifth studio album hit shelves on April 16, 1975—and marked her third Top 10 album on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 10. Led by the fiery single “Attitude Dancing” (which became a Top 40 hit), the album also featured fan favorites like “Waterfall” and “After the Storm,” showcasing a new, funkier edge to Carly’s songwriting and sound. With contributions from luminaries like Carole King, Dr. John, Klaus Voormann, Ringo Starr, and David Sanborn—and an iconic cover shot by the legendary Norman Seeff—PLAYING POSSUM turned heads and made waves. The cover even earned a Grammy nomination for Best Album Package and was later ranked #20 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Album Covers of All Time. Still sassy, soulful, and ahead of its time—Playing Possum, we salute you. #CarlySimon #PlayingPossum #1975 #AlbumAnniversary #AttitudeDancing #OnThisDay #70sMusic #ClassicAlbums

I just saw this clip of @addisonraee talking about “Boys in the Trees” – and it truly warmed my heart. 💚 That album holds so much of me, and to know it’s still finding love today is a beautiful reminder of how art connects us – across generations, moods, and moments. Thank you, Addison, for listening – and for feeling it. We’re obviously on the same wavelength, so let’s take it to the streets and dance the night away. Love, Carly 🌳✨ #BoysInTheTrees #CarlySimon #AddisonRae #MusicConnectsUs #Gratitude

The first time I read the script of “Working Girl,” I thought of a visual of the Staten Island Ferry crossing over to the isle of Manhattan. The Towers were high over all the other buildings in the Wall Street area and the camera panned to the inside of the ferry. Melanie and Joan Cusack were reading Page Six or some other gossip page of one of the morning papers. Cutting away to New York, it made me think of a jungle arriving at a church. I knew I wanted a jungle beat. I wrote a melody that reminded me of a hymn and imagined the sounds of drums driving the beat to the mighty and very tall buildings of commerce. The words “Let the River Run” were borrowed from Joyce or maybe it was referencing the river Liffey which is featured in “Finnigan’s Wake”…I should know, but I forget. “Come the new Jerusalem” was from the book of Revelation or maybe it was from Ulysses. It was a lofty reference supplied for me by my husband and I was thrilled that he knew those things. When my name was called as the Oscar winner for Best Original Song, I was bedazzled. It was given to me by Sammy Davis Jr. and Gregory Hines. I remembered to thank Mike Nichols (of course) and most of the others involved, but I forgot to thank my hard working handsome manager, John Sykes. Because of that I was embarrassed to return to my seat. I didn’t. I went back to be photographed in the outfit in which I was called out as “Worst Dressed” Oscar winner. But it is gold and I feel it in my heart. #oscars #CarlySimon #lettheriverrun

Out now – “Share the End – 2025 Remaster” – produced once again by Paul Samwell-Smith, who helmed the original 1971 recording. This newly remixed edition features fresh contributions from Peter Vettese, with Frank Filipetti handling the mix, while preserving the original performances by Jimmy Ryan and Andy Newmark. Carly says: “’Share the End’ always felt like a hidden gem—quiet but powerful. Today, in a time of war, real and phony despots, division, and dishonesty across the globe, it sometimes feels to me the world is still going up in flames—five decades after I first recorded this song. In the original, I was reflecting on personal relationships, but in this version, I’m thinking more about what’s happening everywhere in the world—how to move forward while treasuring what’s behind us. Working with Paul, Peter, and Frank brought out a layered, almost cinematic quality to the song that feels like a natural progression of its story.” “Share the End – 2025 Remaster” is available now on all streaming platforms. #CarlySimon #HiddenGem #PowerfulMusic #TimeOfWar #GlobalDivision #CinematicQuality #NaturalProgression #ReflectingOnChange #MovingForwardTogether
