My daughter @katie.science speaking to the @ukhouseoflords Select Committee last week about the UK Space Industry👏🏻 Dr Katie King Ph.D. is 32 with a Ph.D. in Nanotechnology from Cambridge, has worked at NASA and founded her space company Bio Orbit nearly 2 years ago. They now have new laboratories in London and will send their first payloads to space this year. Their world beating drive is that by sending immunotherapy and other drugs to space, putting them through “a process”, you can convert the drugs into perfect protein crystals which can then be injected by a patient at home. Currently £Billions are spent globally every year to give these drugs intravenously in clinics and hospitals, and that’s if you can get an appointment. Her product will change all of that. The key to this post is about how young women need to be encouraged into science, maths and engineering because they can provide new thoughts, ideas, concepts and business. It’s something which, as a mother, I gave to my daughter from a very young age. A command of numbers and maths, and a passion for space and wonder. She adores her science ❤️ When I was young (secondary school in the 1970s) girls were put off science and maths in school deliberately as they just needed to ‘have kids and settle down’ (the road the far right politicians would love to recreate – DO NOT LET THEM). I fought it and became the first kid on free school meals in North Wales to get to Cambridge. It was 1978, I was only 17 years old and I became one of the first 100 women to read Engineering at Cambridge. I’ve tried through books, TV and my online maths school to bang the drum of how ‘girls’ can be every bit as good as boys💪🏻 My pride is my daughter knows no bounds, because she is driving this through even though there are many more barriers to her as a woman than to the men. Last year she won two big awards. The UK Female Innovator of the Year 2024 and the Codex World’s Top Female Innovator Award 2024 (the previous winner runs Jeff Bezos’s space company). Support for these young women is everything. Here’s to a bright future for all of them 💡 With love and respect to you all from an older ‘bird’ xx

💥 NEW 💥 While the government cuts welfare, the people who made millions during the pandemic through the Tories’ unlawful VIP lane still haven’t been held to account. Now we can reveal the Director of Luxe Lifestyle – a firm that bagged a £25.7m PPE contract 💰 during Covid – has been arrested. We’ve been pushing for this.

Happy Valentine’s to everyone in my life ❤️❤️ I’ve learned over the years there are so many different kinds of love…and I’ve been lucky to gave a life filled with love ❤️ When I was growing up we were told women were worthless without a husband. Women weren’t even allowed their own bank accounts until 1975 when I was already a teenager age 14. The Princess fairytale is a pile of 💩 Be strong in yourself and don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket If you find a lover who will respect you and you want to be with them …marvellous ❤️ BUT you are whole without them…always remember that. Work on it Don’t settle 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
Can we have confidence in the Covid inquiry? The inquiry seems to be in the dark about the scale of the VIP lane scandal. @Jolyon_Maugham shares the six questions that need answers:
JUST NOW After the nonsense talk about peace in Ukraine, Putin bombed the old nuclear plant at Chernobyl this morning 😡 This is what happens when you give power to corrupted bullies “Emperor” Trump bringing Europe closer to all out war You’ve only known peace time in the UK while you’ve been alive….please DO NOT TAKE DEMOCRACY FOR GRANTED For it may just be a blip… Wanna live under fascism? Then don’t vote Want freedoms for yourself and your children Then register to vote AND VOTE IN ALL ELECTIONS Fascism sneaks through when people can’t be arsed…
