Kate Rockwell Instagram – Tune in Saturday to #StarsInTheHouse and see some fabulous performers honoring Bill Berloni, Broadway’s (and TV/Film) animal trainer. We’ll be broadcasting from where it all began… The Goodspeed Opera House! Back in 1976, Bill was just an intern and was asked to train a dog to play Sandy in the new musical, ANNIE. He had never trained a doggie, but he grew up with them. He went to a local animal shelter and saw a mutt that looked perfect. They told him it would be three dollars, but he didn’t have that kind of money. They then said the doggie was going to be “put to sleep” (killed) the next morning because shelters are always overcrowded. He ran back to the theater, borrowed three dollars from his roommate and showed up the next morning at 7 AM to make sure he would get there as soon as they opened. He made it in time! He adopted thay doggie, named him Sandy, trained him… And ever since then, every animal you’ve ever seen on Broadway has been trained by Bill and is always a rescue!
