Patrick Armand to direct the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera from Season 2025/26 Designated Ballet Director Alessandra Ferri has appointed Patrick Armand as the new director of the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera from 1 September 2025 on. Patrick Armand has extensive international experience, both as a dancer and as a teacher. He has taught at the Royal Ballet London and Royal Ballet School, National Ballet of Canada and Canada’s National Ballet School and at the Teatro alla Scala and La Scala Academy Ballet School among others. In 2012, he assumed the position of the San Francisco Ballet School’s associate director. In 2017, Patrick Armand was named director of the San Francisco Ballet School. Alessandra Ferri: »After directing the San Francisco Ballet School for so many years and elevating it to an exceptional level, I am confident he will bring the same excellence to our institution. I am thrilled to work together with Patrick, celebrated within the ballet community for his inspiring passion, steadfast commitment to the art form, and tireless dedication to mentoring the next generation of artists.« Vienna State Opera Director Bogdan Roščić: »I am absolutely delighted that Patrick Armand has accepted Alessandra Ferri’s invitation to lead our Ballet Academy from September 2025. The Private Audition for Grades 1-4 will consist of two days of class participation according to the pupil’s age and ability. The Private Audition for Grades 5-8 takes place in two parts: one day of class participation according to the pupil’s age and ability, and a separate audition class with designated Ballet Academy director Patrick Armand. You will receive a personal invitation to the Private Audition after submitting your application and a pre-selection by the Ballet Academy‘s direction.
