Allison Dunbar Instagram – There is no one in the world like Peter Miller. Pete was my first friend in California. I only met him because one of regulars at the bar where I bartended in NY wrote his number on a napkin and told me I needed to know him. Pete was a shit show and a jackass and one of the greatest guys I’ve ever known. Pete was the reason I moved down to the South Bay. He gave me a job answering phones at his record company. He made the mistake of letting me do the books, and I gave myself a raise every week, which I don’t regret. When he realized how much money he was losing by having me as an employee, he got me a job at a bar by the beach, which then led to the rest of my life. Pete lived in a house where there had been a triple homicide, and every year on the anniversary he hosted a seance. He chainsmoked, guzzled margaritas, and played drums in the band at Pachos. He had the sickest sense of humor of anyone I’ve ever known and I know some sick people. Pete didn’t care what your name was, he called everybody Terry. I was fat Albert. He helped me raise my first dog Buddy, and I’m pretty sure he gave him the nickname Boobis McManus. or maybe it was Buddy Monroe. He had his own language, most of which I have stolen and now use as my own. If you’ve ever heard me use these words, or if you’re one of the many who heard them from me and now repeat them yourself, know that they came from Pete Miller.

So many more I’m sure I’ll think of as the days go by. Pete carked it 2 days ago and frankly, I’m pissed about that. He used to always threaten me that when he felt like his life was on the decline…..He was going to come to one of my dinner parties and blow his brains out on my nicest area rug. I guess I’m glad he didn’t get to do that. Because I believed he would. I will miss you terribly little Petey Miller. I know you’re sitting around a bonfire right now with all of our Spooners.
