It’s who we are and it’s the reason we’ve been focused on protecting freedom, dignity, and opportunity for every person who calls this state home.
For me, freedom starts with the ability to make decisions about your own body and your own future.
That’s why we fought to protect reproductive freedom in Michigan, so women can make their own health care choices without politicians standing in the way.
That same belief guides our work to expand civil protections and make Michigan a place where everyone belongs.
We expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include protections for LGBTQ Michiganders, so no one can be fired, evicted, or turned away simply for being who they are.
Equality also means recognizing that discrimination doesn’t always look the same for everyone. That’s why we signed the CROWN Act, making it clear that no one should face bias at work or school because of their natural hair or protective hairstyles.
And we’re making sure families have the support they need from day one.
Through our Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies initiative, we’re expanding access to prenatal care, postpartum care, and mental health services. Because healthy moms mean healthy babies, and healthy families mean a healthier Michigan.
Conversion therapy is an outdated, dangerous practice that no child should ever have to experience.
Here in Michigan, we banned conversion therapy to ensure no child has to endure the lifelong trauma and pain that it causes.
When I think equality, I think Michigan. We’ve worked hard to ensure every person won’t just ‘make it in Michigan’ but make a home out of Michigan.
