So proud to congratulate to my big brother, Glenn, who retired today as a Lieutenant Colonel after 36 years of service to our country. Glenn joined the Army reserve right out of high school so he could get a paid college education but wound up dedicating his life to serving in the army. I am immensely proud of his dedication and commitment but now he has several more hours of the day to get on my nerves. 😳 Seriously though, so very proud of you, Bro. Can’t wait to get together to celebrate your retirement! Cheers 🥃 *** CORRECTION *** I must put more clarity on this post My brother, Glenn, actually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008, took a 15 month retirement break and then went back as a federal employee in 2010 and then just retired once again. He said that if he stayed in the Army for 36 years he should have been a 3 star General by now. Lol! Sorry for the misinformation. Seems like there’s a lot of that going around these days. 😝

In fact, about 80% of Asian women have dense breast tissue, which makes it harder for mammograms to see what’s really there. For some reason, there’s still this misconception that we don’t get breast cancer that because we have smaller breasts or dense tissue, we’re somehow protected. That is simply not true. My mother had breast cancer. I’ve seen firsthand how dangerous that false sense of security can be. We need to talk about this more openly in our families, in our communities and we need to start asking for more than just a mammogram. Ultrasound should be part of our routine screening, automatically. I know that I have extremely dense breast tissue because I’ve been having mammograms since I was 18 years old.’ And she said, ‘Well, I’m not going to recommend that for you. We have to wait until you get your mammogram, and then the radiologist will decide.’ After 40 years of mammograms and knowing I am extremely dense, an ultrasound should have been immediately offered. When my results came back, it confirmed what I already knew but it didn’t recommend the screening that could make a difference. Women shouldn’t have to fight for the screenings they need.
