This is the question I get asked the most, by far: Why did you move your family from the USA to Italy? There were a lot of reasons, but the main reason was because we wanted both of our sons to have the same opportunities in life. Brant and Wilder became dual citizens of USA and Italy end of 2024, from an application that was submitted in 2022 (before Aero was born). After they received their recognition, we started getting the paperwork together so that Aero could get his citizenship as well. However, end of March 2025 (about 1 week before we would have submitted all of Aero’s paperwork), Italy changed the law and it looked like the only way for Aero to receive his citizenship was for us to establish residency in Italy for two years. This is what got us talking seriously about moving. Prior to that, it was always, “Maybe we’ll retire in Italy one day… or maybe we’ll get a place to summer in Italy.” But that law change is what really got us moving. As an Italian citizen, Wilder can live/work/study freely anywhere in the European Union (27 countries!) and it was important to us that both of our sons had that benefit. Now, the law was amended, so it looks like Aero can get his citizenship as long as we file before March 2026, but at that point, we had already made the decision to move and were excited for a new chapter! We’re still working on getting Aero recognized (which has new hurtles now that we’re here), but we’re glad we decided to choose adventure! #AmericanInItaly #LifeAbroad #LaDolceVita #LivingInVerona #CulturalDifferences #ExpatCommunity #GlobalNomads — I’m Kim and my husband is Brant. Spent a beautiful weekend in Innsbruck, Austria. One of our favorite things about Europe is that there’s so much to see, just a train ride away. Thank you @hotelschwarzeradler for having us!
Happy Birthday Wilder! I can’t believe you’re 4 already. You’re the most silly, clever and loving kid around and we’re so grateful that you’re ours. Singing silly songs, talking about your giant frog friend named Grungy and playing tricks on your dollhouse people, you’re full of creativity and new ideas! Thank you for all the cuddles and being so loving with Aero. I love you more than words can express and you’ve forever changed me in more ways than I can even describe. Thank you for making me a mother.

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays in the states, but it’s not widely celebrated in Italy. So when our 4 year old wanted to throw a Halloween party for his entire class, we made it happen! And as for trick-or-treating? The boys knocked on every bathroom and bedroom door in our flat. 😂 Keeping traditions alive in a new way! Any other ideas for celebrating? #americanexpat #expathalloween — I’m Kim, wife and mom. We recently moved our family (with two young kids) from California to Italy! Follow along on our journey.
Thankful for our little community of friends here in Italy, my family, beautiful sunsets and epic lake views! First Thanksgiving here in Italy was a success! #americanexpat #livingabroad #lakegarda
Being a mama is my favorite thing. Happy Mother’s Day to all.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Aero! You bring us all so much love, joy and laughter. I’m so proud of you, moving across the world and learning two languages at once. We love you!!!

Italian train hack? Well, not really a hack… but we learned the hard way that if you’re riding the Italian rail on a Sunday, you should pay for seat reservations or you may end up on the floor like us. On the train ride over to Innsbruck, we had four seats with a table in an empty family car… no such luck on our way back! Shout out to the kind guy who let Wilder sit on his suitcase when all the floor seats were taken. #americanabroad #dualcitizenship #ladolcevita #lakegardaWithKids #LifeAbroadWithKids #ParentingAbroad #ExpatMom #ExpatDad #ItalyExpatLife #KidsInItaly #RaisingKidsAbroad #ExpatParentLife — I’m Kim, wife and mom.
