Studies show that for every 10,000 people screened, 8 will die from treatment of cancers they never would have had, yet hundreds may be “saved.” But here’s the kicker: research shows a 52% overdiagnosis rate with mammograms. That means thousands are being treated unnecessarily. 😳
And if you have dense breast tissue, the radiation itself can increase breast‑cancer risk. Long‑term meta‑analyses, the gold standard in research, show zero net effectiveness in some studies.
Here’s a curve‑ball: In Switzerland, the Swiss Medical Board actually called into question the widespread use of mammography screening due to concerns of overdiagnosis and harm. They didn’t ban mammograms altogether, but they flagged the data and pushed for informed, individualised decision‑making.
I’m NOT saying don’t screen and prevent. I’m just saying they’re are better ways! That’s why I recently got a thermogram instead and I’ll be sharing my results soon. In my eyes, ultrasound thermography should be the standard, not mammograms.
Your body, your choice… but it’s worth knowing the data before you get squished. 💁♀️
