Training is hugely important to me, something I incorporate even as I’m projecting a limit climb. I build the strength I need on the Swarm and other mini-projects, so my ‘off wall’ training is more focused on maintenance – bodyweight pull-ups, lighter weights that activate my muscles without fatiguing them, heavy finger lifts but not max (except for the occasional stoker session when I can’t help but try to PR 😅). This helps keep me in the rhythm of routine and structure without detracting from my climbing sessions. I’m also locked in on proper fueling, fully in my peak protein era 🙇🏻♀️ so I’m glad to have @gnarlynutrition in my corner once again!! I’ve used Gnarly since their first launch in 2013. Their protein consistently tastes good and works with my gut biome. I’ve experimented with a variety of other supplement lines over the years but Gnarly feels the best again and again. This is on top of whole foods, fat & carbs, and a little sweet treat now and then 😊 As a not-so-lowkey gym rat, my body feels best when I’m both climbing and training. It’s all about adjusting intensity to serve the current goal. Be smart about it! Moves made thus far this season. The Swarm is easily the most amount of days, effort, and emotion I’ve put into a climb. It feels so intense projecting something for this long, structuring my life around ideal times/conditions/body composition/mindset, seeking balance between obsessive focus and calm acceptance. I’ve struggled to share this journey in the past because of uncertainty and doubt. “I sound like a broken record, what if I never send, who cares at the end of the day, it’s just a rock, it’s just a rock, just a stupid rock” – yes, *and* it’s a beautiful piece of stone in the most stunning landscape that has held me, cut me, shaped me for the last decade. I care deeply, it means a lot to me, I love this place and the ritual of challenge that Bishop provides. I’m back on the Swarm for my fourth dedicated season, not including smaller trips (I first tried this problem in 2015 with @alex_puccio89 when she sent in a session lol). I feel strong, eager, and ready. It still might not be enough. But I’m willing to take that risk, show up, and share the journey as best I can.
