Something exciting happened. Three years ago I went to the Basquiat ‘King Pleasure’ exhibit in New York. I walked through the story of his life, looking at the bold beautiful paintings and recreations of his home space. I read about one of his girlfriends- Jennifer Goode. And I had the thought, ‘wow it would be so cool to play her in a film.’ Three years later, I was cast to play Jennifer in a Julius Onah film, with my friend Kelvin Harrison Junior as Basquiat. It was one of those strange full circle moments, that was even more fulfilling than I could have imagined. It’s going to be a really special film. The best part was meeting Jennifer- she invited me out to the Turtle Conservancy in Ojai to talk about her life with Basquiat in the 80s. It was such an incredible experience, talking about art and relationships, I was particularly inspired by her resilience, kindness, and her eye for beauty. And I met endangered tortoises at the conservancy all at the same time! It was a really inspiring journey, and so magical to be part of this beautiful film.

Thank You for having us @fantasiafestival ! It was so moving to hear the positive response to this story that we all poured our hearts into. I love @juliepacino’s vision. She was wildly brave to write a story about a woman’s journey into the deep psyche and her battle for bodily autonomy. @madbrew @__sarahrich @laraclear brought this world to life in the most mesmerizing ways. And I am very grateful to have gone on the wild journey that Rose took me through. Fantasia was the perfect place to premiere our weird and wonderful film. Hope to come back soon!
