Lucy Fry Instagram – Something exciting happened.
Three years ago I went to the Basquiat ‘King Pleasure’ exhibit in New York. I walked through the story of his life, looking at the bold beautiful paintings and recreations of his home space. I read about one of his girlfriends- Jennifer Goode. And I had the thought, ‘wow it would be so cool to play her in a film.’
Three years later, I was cast to play Jennifer in a Julius Onah film, with my friend Kelvin Harrison Junior as Basquiat. It was one of those strange full circle moments, that was even more fulfilling than I could have imagined. It’s going to be a really special film.
The best part was meeting Jennifer- she invited me out to the Turtle Conservancy in Ojai to talk about her life with Basquiat in the 80s. It was such an incredible experience, talking about art and relationships, I was particularly inspired by her resilience, kindness, and her eye for beauty. And I met endangered tortoises at the conservancy all at the same time!
