Petra Costa Instagram – Since our premiere @labiennale in August of 2024, @apocalypseinthetropics has garnered a fervent grassroots following in Brazil that has inspired widespread reflection and debate about the perversion of faith in the name of political power. The subsequent @netflix release in July of 2025 incited a remarkable outpouring of support and engagement from the international community. But the real work for the preservation of democracy in the free world is just beginning. The recent imprisonment of Jair Bolsonaro curbed the influence of Christian Nationalism in Brazil, but the genesis of Bolsonaro’s weaponization of Christianity originates right here in the United States … and these tactics are alive and well in the Trump regime. We’re looking forward to expanding the conversation in the US and working together with community stakeholders to challenge authoritarian overreach and empower individuals to stake their proper claim to the rights and liberties enshrined in the Constitution.
