There are novels that take you wholly into another time, another place, another human and allow you to look around from within as if it was your life written on the page. The ache and loneliness of childhood you didn’t live, the meeting points of New York City that are at once evidence of the complete randomness of the universe AND kismet. A chance to walk around a decade into which I was born but couldn’t possibly understand. Except, that throughout this book there were so many moments I found myself nodding along. Recognizing someone I’ve never met and feeling a recognition of my own self in the process.
