Alicia Silverstone Instagram – I wasn’t supposed to fall in love.
On December 12th, I heard about a pregnant mama dog scheduled to be euthanized. I made some calls. Helen Woodward Animal Center stepped in. That same day she gave birth to 14 puppies. Twelve survived.
On the 31st, Bear and I went to visit… and somehow I left fostering four of them.
Four became two.
And I fell hard for brindle baby Roscoe.
The past few days I’ve been a hot, crying mess… trying to rearrange my life in my head so I could keep him.
But I’m leaving the country for 2.5 months. I haven’t slept properly in nearly two weeks. There was no way to do my job well, be a good mom, and raise newborn puppies… no matter how much I love him.
It was time for my to say goodbye.
And then my neighbor told me they’re adopting him.
I burst into tears again.
But this time… from relief.
I still get to see him grow up.
He gets a forever home.
Adoption is magic. 🤍🐾
My heart is wrecked. And full.
Roscoe was almost gone before he ever had a chance. So many others still are.
If you’ve been thinking about getting a dog, please visit your local shelter or a rescue like Helen Woodward Animal Center first. Love is sitting in a kennel somewhere right now, waiting to meet you.
Every day, shelters are inundated with wonderful animals who need homes. Please always adopt and never buy, and demand our local governments launch vigorous, mandatory spaying and neutering. Roscoe, his mama, and his siblings thank you. 🐾❤️ @hwac
