Sometimes you’re approached with a project that is almost impossible within the bounds of time and the human hand but that you’d also regret not doing for the rest of your life and you can’t believe that your job allows you to bring joy to people who have brought YOU joy. That’s precisely what happened when @culkamania asked me to make puppets of himself and @brendasong and their beautiful children (not pictured to respect their privacy). I am overjoyed to get to share these at last and will be completely spamming yall with pictures and videos of their process soon so until then enjoy their spectacular seasonal dancing skills. Truly what a delight and a thrill and a fortune to have the chance to do this, to work with dreamers and schemers and joy-bringers. My mind is blown and my heart is grateful.
Now that we’ve done the big reveal, let’s look at some of the sculpting process! (I’ll do a separate one for the costumes because 😮💨) Outside of a couple music videos I’ve never sculpted the person a puppet will be going to, it’s always seemed like too much pressure or too easy to insult them if I make them look too “creepy”. But @culkamania really seemed to get it, to love the magic in the milky eyes, and for that I’m so very grateful. I’m so proud of these face sculpts, he and @brendasong have such vibrant features it almost made it easy (almost…) and although not pictured here for privacy, the bebes were equally as delightful. And the tiny boots?! Ugh, I love puppets so much, I really do. Grateful beyond measure for the chance to make them for people who still hold onto the wonder and whimsy and world at the heart of them. (All clay used is @cosclayusa , my queen, the wind beneath my wings)
