Mandy Moore Instagram – I’ve been mostly offline lately, but I felt compelled to come on and extend all my love and appreciation to the dream team who made our home a reality—twice. There aren’t sufficient words for you (@sarahshermansamuel, @emilyfarnhamarchitecture, @bronstruction, @johnstonvidalprojects, @terremoto_landscape, @sarahmatthews.co and ALL of their respective teams).
I don’t think any of us imagined what an endeavor it would become when Taylor and I wandered into that open house in the early days of COVID. I was just barely pregnant with Gus (though I didn’t know it yet) in June 2020. We moved in with two toddlers three and a half years later, evacuated on January 7 with those same toddlers and a three-month-old, and then made our way back nine months later with a one-year-old on the verge of walking.
I know there will be complicated feelings about this choice to share, and that’s part of why I’ve stayed offline- the internet is no longer for my tender heart lol). I want to say that I honor and hold space for everyone grieving the destruction and aftermath of the fires. At first, I was hesitant to take part, simply because of the scale of the loss in our community and across Los Angeles. Yes, we lost things too, but we’re also living with immense gratitude for what was miraculously saved and the acknowledgement of the privelege that comes with it. Sorting through those complex emotions—especially the survivor’s guilt—has been challenging.
The opportunity to be in the pages of AD was actually in the works long before the fires, so we ultimately chose to use it as a chance to honor the beautiful work of our friends, who toiled tirelessly for years and deserve every bit of credit.
We love our community and feel so buoyed by the construction and life slowly returning. We can’t wait to keep championing Altadena and everything that makes it such a special place for those of us lucky enough to still call it home.
