I wrote to a sister friend: “I have truly been so sad since I found out… Reflecting on why I feel this way? I think I’ve realized that Diane Keaton emulated so many of the things I didn’t see in the world around me, so many possibilities for women to be embodied, and centered in their own lives, And quirky and emotional and frustrated and confused and yet sexy and lovable and tremendous!!! She gave me a language for the kind of woman I wanted to be, and the kind of woman I knew was alive inside of me before I had the words to describe her. She was truly a profound artist, And managed to be so with a smile. Perhaps a smirk? God, I loved her.”
