Saved by my lone crooked tooth! I stopped by my new apartment to check on the renovations. Curiosity didn’t kill the cat, but it sure did take me down. I tripped, and as I fell, my only thought was, “please, just not my face!” Well, I landed face-first. Somehow, my one crooked tooth broke the fall. My upper lip was barely hanging on and there was a lot of blood. (I’ll spare you the photos, but trust me.) And then, like something out of a movie, the building super appeared and casually mentioned there was an incredible doctor in the building who could stitch me up on the spot. 5 stitches on my lip later from @drjohnesherman, and I was good to go! I had planned to travel early tomorrow for four speeches in four cities and I looked damn scary with my front tooth missing. “Take MY dentist appointment,” Dr. Sherman said. “I have a toothache and I’m due there in five minutes. He’s the best cosmetic dentist in the city. It takes months to get in.” Next thing I knew, we were in the Dr. Sherman’s Porsche parked out front, driving a few blocks south. Talk about 5 stars! 30 minutes later I walked out with my brand-new front tooth, straight as an arrow. A major upgrade from my brave tooth that’s probably still buried at the scene. Long story short, I knocked out my front tooth and didn’t even get a gold medal for it.

They didn’t take me seriously, they didn’t invite me to the big meetings, and they sure didn’t see me as competition. I could’ve let that crush me, but instead, I used it to my advantage. I listened when they spoke. I watched how they did business. And I worked twice as hard in silence. The same men who ignored me could no longer overlook me as their strongest competitor. So here’s my advice to every woman today: If they underestimate you, let them. Use it as fuel. Stay sharp, stay hungry, and keep showing up until they can’t ignore you anymore.
