We wrapped my short film Sisters last week and I could not be more grateful to each and every member of our cast and crew for making my directorial debut so fulfilling, exciting, seamless, and FUN. The script was something I wrote on a whim several years ago. I never forgot about it, but didn’t think I’d have the support to make it. The first hurdle was believing in myself enough to share it, but I did and I’m so glad it was with my friend and hero @chelseastardust, who immediately championed and believed in me and the story. I said “Is it crazy if I wanna direct it?” and she said “no???” What a powerhouse. She works harder than basically anyone I’ve ever met. The movie could not exist without her. Things really fell into place when the amazing @mkbecker joined as our DP. This movie looks so beautiful already because of her. Her expertise and steady, grounded kindness were such a gift. I’ve spent a good amount of time on set as an actor but I’ve never appreciated the dance of filmmaking and the impact of every single department like I did making this movie. Torrential rain and time crunches were no match for us! I’m so proud. I can’t wait to piece this movie together and share it with you all and celebrate everyone who made it. I could write essays about everyone involved, but I’m gonna shut up now🤍🎬

Last night I had the privilege to see Sepideh Farsi’s astounding documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk. It’s a beautiful portrait of a brilliant, radiant young Palestinian woman named Fatma Hassona and the year long friendship she and Sepideh cultivated over the internet until Fatma and her family were murdered at the hands of the Israeli military. Fatma was a photographer, singer, poet, and artist. She was 24 years old. We have so much coverage, so much information about the genocide happening in Gaza, but to take the time to get to know this bright light, Fatma, and to see Gaza through her eyes, was invaluable. May she rest in peace and may Palestine be free from these horrors.
