Today we hosted a very important day at @sohohouse for International Women’s Day. Thank you so much to everyone I came 💗 this day serves as a big reminder every year, not just about how far we have come as women, but also how far we still have to go. Conviction rates for stalking, domestic abuse and coercive control still sit at below 5%. One woman is killed every 4 to 5 days by her current or former partner. Domestic abuse is one of the leading causes of death for women. Shocking statistics, I know. But important and imperative ones to hear. I have been making documentaries about violence against women for the past 7 years; I have met so many brave and incredible women that have entirely changed me as a human being. I am not the girl I once was before meeting them. They have changed my life. They have opened my eyes to so many issues in this world; inequality on all levels that so many of us are naive and ignorant to if we haven’t experienced it ourselves. This IWD is not just about women, it’s about everyone. It is so important to take a minute to reflect and educate yourself on topics you may not know much about. It’s absolutely ok to not fully understand something you haven’t been through. But it is your duty to be accountable for yourself, and take steps to learn. It is your duty to not be intimidated by topics that feel too big and scary to understand. Today we had a very interesting discussion about what to do if a friend of yours is experiencing abuse in a relationship. In those scenarios; it can be challenging as a friend when you see them hurt, withdrawn, alone, and perhaps even protective. Some practical things you can do as a friend: BELIEVE. LISTEN. TAKE NOTES (keep a log of what he/she tells you, and when). HELP HER TO UNDERSTAND THAT LEAVING IS POSSIBLE. TALK TO A LOCAL REFUGE/ SAFE HOUSE. I also urge anyone to donate anything they can to a local refuge. Lots of women fleeing violent relationships leave with nothing but the shirt on their back. They may have children. Anything you can do to support these refuges and thus the women that need fresh clothes, a bag, toys for their children, etc, goes a LONG way. Thank you💗 @refugecharity
This past week has been an especially fulfilling week; filming my next @bbcthree @bbciplayer documentary series. I am so honoured to be able to continue doing this extremely important work❤️ We’ve been in development for this series since the summer last year. It’s taken us a while to start filming because it’s an incredible complex story, with a lot of moving parts. However I’m so happy to finally get this project underway. I know I can’t say too much now, but being on the forefront of raising awareness of new and life shattering crimes is extremely important to me. I’ve met hundreds, if not thousands of women whose lives have been destroyed by all kinds of abuse, and I feel a huge sense of responsibility to shine a light. Abusers like to hide in the shadows & behind their screens, whilst continually tormenting others from the “safety” of perceived anonymity. This new series will mean that some of them can’t hide anymore. I will share more when I can, but in the mean time, I know it’s going to be one of the most powerful series I’ve ever made. ❤️ I cannot believe I’m into my 7th year of making documentaries now, and officially into my 10th series! Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me and has supported my work. It means everything ❤️
THIS. WAS. UNREAL. I had a craving, thought “I wonder if I can just make this at home?” and gave it a shot. I’ve had my fair share of In N Outs and I must say, this was pretty bang on the money 😍🍔🍟 the key is in the sauce!!! 250g mayonaise 4tbsp ketchup 2tbsp yellow mustard 4tbsp sweet pickle relish 2tbsp finely diced dill pickles 2tsp white vinegar 1tsp sugar 1tsp smoked paprika 1/2tsp garlic powder 1/2tsp pepper Chill for a few hours before ideally!!! For the burgers, roll gently into balls of around 100g each. I used a burger press to press down, cooking on med/high for 2 min each side. I brushed with yellow mustard on each side as I was cooking… this is KEY!! The melt your cheese on top of each burger. For the animal fries, dice a white onion (or 2, I like more onion!!!) and fry on a med/low heat in butter for 15 min, making sure to keep them moving so they don’t burn. I used brioche buns for the buns, and for the fries I just found some in my local shop that looked similar to the In N Out ones!! Assemble with sauce, tomato, lettuce, then the burgers and some more of that amazing sauce!❤️🤓🍔 #innout #burger #smashburger #recipe #fakeaway
