Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. – Helen Keller I’ve always believed in an innate ‘wisdom of insecurity’ (as Jack Kornfield calls it) in a way that puzzled both others and myself. When I was younger, I acted out my defiance through constant travel and needed to uproot myself frequently to live in a way that felt more natural than following conventional ideas of a rooted and controlled life. Now I’ve learned becoming comfortable with uncertainty and change is actually about relaxation: when we understand the truth of it and give up the illusion of control, we are free. Of course ‘trust’ – that everything will work out as it’s meant to- is not separate from insecurity. You can cultivate trust of not knowing by understanding there is perfection in imperfection and grace beyond our imperfect understanding. The way to get there is meditation and reflection.
