Pre-birthday dinner @beetrestaurant – outstanding tasting menu.
Dreamy and floaty in @ilovepero and in intimacy with my three loves: papa, hubby and the full moon 🙏🏼
Thank you truly for all the honeyed wishes in advance. I am in constant gratitude for all you bodhisattvas who put compassion and love at the centre of everything.
May I be more at home in myself, more aware and awakened, more loving.
May I be carried on ‘the winds of homecoming’ – as Rilke called the inner tug- to a deeper intention to manifest the best version of myself.
And I invite even more art in my life. I have a list of preferred art works if anyone wants to throw a gift my way 😜

Because impermanence is the one truth, because our physical form will change and grow old and weak, because I’ve learned that sensing the possibility of death makes love more possible, because when this image was taken 25 years ago by @elsewheregoa I was drawn to luminosity and mystery but had little experience with change and loss. Because of this- and so much more- Hafiz and his words are essential.
DEEPENING THE WONDER
Death is a favor to us,
But our scales have lost their balance.
The impermanence of the body
Should give us great clarity,
Deepening the wonder in our senses and eyes
Of this mysterious existence we share
And are surely just traveling through. […] Our marriage with the Cruel Beauty
Of time and space cannot endure very long.
Death is a favor to us,
But our minds have lost their balance.
The miraculous existence and impermanence of
Form
Always makes the illumined ones

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature nor do children as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is not safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
– Helen Keller
I’ve always believed in an innate ‘wisdom of insecurity’ (as Jack Kornfield calls it) in a way that puzzled both others and myself. When I was younger, I acted out my defiance through constant travel and needed to uproot myself frequently to live in a way that felt more natural than following conventional ideas of a rooted and controlled life. Now I’ve learned becoming comfortable with uncertainty and change is actually about relaxation: when we understand the truth of it and give up the illusion of control, we are free.
Of course ‘trust’ – that everything will work out as it’s meant to- is not separate from insecurity. You can cultivate trust of not knowing by understanding there is perfection in imperfection and grace beyond our imperfect understanding.
The way to get there is meditation and reflection. My immersion in Buddhism has been invaluable. Turn the lens inwards to drop your anxiety about change and non perfection.

Glimpses at the tail end of an art daze. Art month in #HongKong culminates with @artbasel
Sharing a few vignettes. From making friends with the excellent Prateek and Priyanka Raja behind India’s most avant garde gallery @experimenterkol (thanks @goodfood65 as always for the Kolkata connection) to meeting artist @vishwashroff @tarqmumbai and taking in the striking @waswoxwaswo and #ManjunathKamat pieces @galleryespace, the offerings from India this year resonated strongly with me.
Managed to squeeze in some intimate conversation with a #JeffKoons lobster- which dad spotted with an exclamation of ‘look- chingri macch!’
Other highlights (my wishlist) haunting and exquisite cloud work – pigment on mylar- by @ali.kazim.ak @jhavericontemporary ; @shireengandhy shared her passion for pathos filled, delicate portraits by an artist I’ve been following @varunika.saraf @chemouldprescottroad and @naturemorte_delhi aching for a work from #GauriGill Acts of Appearance series.
Special mention to the conceptual pieces on form and entropy by #PorsandRao @galleryske
And being hosted by @seanito73 set the convivial tone for the entire fair for me. Lovely to have a co-conspirator whom one can whisper with. Thank you my dear @sujstyle for connecting- hope you make it here next year. Art Basel 2018

I grew up absorbing images of Kali. Even as a child I was deeply fascinated by her ferocity. It never frightened me, in the way mournful images of Jesus on the cross did. Like all childhood influences, today I understand my attraction better. The mythology of Kali symbolises all the unstoppable forces of the feminine journey; the protection, the fierceness, the boldness and at the same time the transformative power of tenderness and love. I argued away my warriorship for many years, made myself small and less threatening around men. Walled myself off from my feminine instincts and feelings. And finally, over the last few years, the container is broken. From myself now, nothing but a flow of uncontainable peaceful power. The qualities of the goddess don’t need explanation. You can feel her, just as I did as a kid. And perhaps learning to surrender to that feeling has been the greatest gift in my life so far.
That, and finding a partner- a consort- who compliments but doesn’t contain the flow of Shakti and crazy strong female energy.
There’s a special place for those not afraid of their own power.
Thanks @aakanksha.a for this Kali.

All I get is pictures of churches and sardines. What kind of compensation is that?
Perhaps I don’t speak often enough about how meditation and Buddhism transformed my life. Sometimes people react with suspicion towards a perceived proselytizer. In addition, in Tibetan Buddhism, one is discouraged from developing a spiritual ego: a practitioner dedicated to the dharma doesn’t reveal their ‘realizations’ but instead attempts to find skillful means of being useful to others. Why? is the eternal question, but perhaps we have to turn away from words and looking for intellectual answers and rest in the silence between words. Why? Perhaps simply getting exposed to the benefits of meditation time and time again is enough of a gentle call to action.
