Lisa Ray Instagram – I grew up absorbing images of Kali. Even as a child I was deeply fascinated by her ferocity. It never frightened me, in the way mournful images of Jesus on the cross did. Like all childhood influences, today I understand my attraction better. The mythology of Kali symbolises all the unstoppable forces of the feminine journey; the protection, the fierceness, the boldness and at the same time the transformative power of tenderness and love. I argued away my warriorship for many years, made myself small and less threatening around men. Walled myself off from my feminine instincts and feelings. And finally, over the last few years, the container is broken. From myself now, nothing but a flow of uncontainable peaceful power. The qualities of the goddess don’t need explanation. You can feel her, just as I did as a kid. And perhaps learning to surrender to that feeling has been the greatest gift in my life so far. That, and finding a partner- a consort- who compliments but doesn’t contain the flow of Shakti and crazy strong female energy. There’s a special place for those not afraid of their own power.
