Why go on a Wellness Retreat? Maybe you have an autoimmune disease. Maybe you are stressed out. Bloated. Can’t lose those last five kilos. Living but not thriving. Or you are a cancer survivor… There are many reasons for going on a health retreat. The main thing is if you hear the call: LISTEN. Cancer taught me to prioritise my spirit and health. And to listen to the inner voice. And so after a three hour drive from Kochi through rubber plantations and nutmeg and rambutan trees I entered the magical sanctuary that is @prakritishakti_cghearth a Naturopathic Clinic in the hills of Kerala. Before arriving I was feeling uneasy in my skin. My digestion was up and down. I was tired all the time and getting increasingly irritable with my family. I left literally reborn (another of many rebirths in this lifetime) in fact I went straight to Delhi to walk in a couture show after years and it was my newfound vitality that carried me through nerves and two sleepless nights to make a triumphant return on the runway. Here’s my main takeaways: 1. Eat as close to nature as possible. I ate delicious, satiating raw food that helped my gut and body reset. Since leaving I’ve effortlessly continued eating super clean and in fact have carried forward great substitutions and hacks for items like protein powder (almond meal) plus raw soups are divine. No sliding back to treating food like a convenience. Food is communication – what are you telling your body? That you want kick ass vibrant health or to accelerate ageing? 2. The power of fasting. Voluntary abstinence from food 24 hours or more triggers human autophagy which cleans up damaged and even cancer cells. Even milder fasting is a win. I’m fasting once a week now. 3. Rest!!! Smell the lillies. Can’t be said enough 4. Just as important as healthy habits is Rhythm. When and how harmoniously do you eat, sleep, breathe, dream and take action. ‘The noise became music when the rhythm came in’ 5. In this journey DIRECTION is important, not the speed. Recover wellness through nature’s touch. The power of being in relationship with yourself and with the natural world is the secret sauce of life. @prakritishakti_cghearth

“I free myself from hatred through forgiveness and love. I understand that suffering, when it cannot be avoided,is here to help me on my way to glory. I understand that everything is connected, that all roads meet, and that all rivers flow into the same sea.” Paulo Coelho (Aleph)

I read a caption by fellow 50 plus sister @candicebest that talks about Net Fulfilment instead of Net Worth as a way to measure your life. It’s from a book by @billperkins called @diewithzero and I’ve just ordered it. I’ve always believed in measuring time by my own personal map, the footprints left in damp earth where no one else has yet tread- rather than by things or the accumulation of wealth. I also love the idea of waking each morning to ask: am I contributing to the cure or the disease? Every decision, every thought, every minute moment of life contributes to your vitality or drains your life force. There’s always a chance for renewal with every inhale. You will never have this miracle block of aliveness again. And how marvellous is that? #52andthriving
