सिटीत जाउन येते! Regardless of what qualifies as a city, here in Pune we have our own concept of “City”. Before we had the luxury of Shopping Malls –
Birthday shopping at Pinakin – Diwali at Chitale – Wedding shopping at Sharmili & School essentials at Ramesh Dyeing. All the major events in the year brought us to Laxmi road/ Bajirao road or “City”
Where you’d see all the ladies at their highest level of excitement, children mostly whining because the shopping just wouldn’t end and the men pacing outside the store running out of patience.
The shopping would be followed with a meal at Agathya which made all happy as finally everyone got a place to SIT! After the food, the thought of walking back to the scooter would be quite painful for the kids and so the Kaware Ice cream was just the right distraction on way and the perfect dessert.

Fragrant flashbacks
They say that memory and smell are intertwined.
Vitthaldas Narayandas & Sons- An incense store in Pune. This store makes the whole ‘Phadke haud’ chowk smell like Roses, Chandan and other amazing scents.
On way to my Nani’s old house in Kasba Peth (where my mother was raised) when we crossed this chowk, Mom would roll down the window take a deep breath to take in the scent – and would tell me her childhood memory of that place. The scent would triger something in her I guess… and today it does the same to me.

Stepping into the new world when I returned to my city for a break, I realised how there are parts of this city in me – the times – the moments, live inside me.
Also being a lover of the olden times (some that I’ve lived and some that I’ve heard of) I get extremely emotional seeing the city change landscapes because of the metro development.
I’m going to share a few moments and places that I re-visited in the past few days – taking in the simple joys that maybe I don’t necessarily live today on a regular but definitely live long in my memory and make me smile.
