You have the sass and magic of Tinker Bell. The spiritual connection of a guru. I adore how you listen to your heart, to nature, to Heaven, and how you pray over dead bees. No situation or person has ever taught me more about life than you have. It is thanks to you that my heart is as open as it is. You made me a mama, sweet girl, the greatest gift of all. Happy 5 to my favorite little heavenly earthling. 🧚♀️❤️ Maiya. You have the sass and magic of Tinker Bell. The spiritual connection of a guru. Breonna was a bright young woman and an award-winning EMT and it’s devastating to think of all the goodness she would’ve continued to bring to this world had her life not been brutally ended by police. On the night of March 13th, the Louisville Metro Police executed a no-knock warrant, looking for drugs trafficked by a person who did not live with Breonna or in her complex. They shot Breonna eight times, killing her while she slept in her bed. NONE of these police officers have been fired or arrested. We will not forget Breonna and we will fight for her. Please go to fightforbreonna.org (link in my bio) and demand that special prosecutor Daniel Cameron comport with full transparency and accountability. Please watch the ENTIRE four minutes before commenting or thinking you are personally being attacked because you are white and called a racist. Something I as a white parent need desperately right now. #BlackLivesMatter #Parenting #amplifymelanatedvoices I have the honor of doing an IG Live with my dear friend and amazing woman and filmmaker Oge Egbuonu TODAY at 11.30am PT. We’ll be discussing her documentary (In)Visible Portraits which shatters the too-often invisible otherizing and marginalization of Black women in America and reclaims the true narrative as told in their own words. Three years in the making it will finally be released this month. Divine timing. Which is also the meaning of her name ❤️👑 @ogetheyogi If you have any questions for the Live please drop them below! Reminder that ally should be used as a verb rather than a noun 🗣 Repost from @heybelovedmama • George, we heard your cry for Mama! We wept as we listened, and we realized that Mama was also justice, air, and love. Black mamas understood and white mamas stood and declared I AM MAMA! We are all running to answer you. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I am bold. I am bold enough to challenge and confront any and all racism and fear with in my own heart. I recognize that this is the most important work I can do.⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I speak. I fearlessly speak, challenge, and confront all acts of racism in my home, my place of worship, my work, in my grocery store, and any place where I am present. My voice cannot be silenced because of fear or thoughts of inadequacy. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I protect. I fight to protect those who are in danger. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – l comfort. I seek to comfort the pain and the lamenting of others. Because I am a mama I instinctively know when my shoulder is needed to cry on, and when my arms are needed to hug. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I listen. I listen to opinions that are uncomfortable and unlike mine for the sake of my children. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA- I see. I see the differences in others. I am not color blind, however, I am color aware. Blindness leads to unawareness, unawareness leads to inaction. I act because I can see. My awareness of our differences empowers me to truly love unconditionally and appreciate every uniqueness. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I learn. I take the time to learn the world outside of my own, realizing that the experiences of others are valid and real. I do not discredit what is unfamiliar to me or what makes me uncomfortable. My teachable heart cultivates wisdom in my actions. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I teach. I teach my children to love others as we love ourselves. I teach my children through the example that I AM. ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – I heal. I tirelessly pour out my love to assurethat every child, of every color, has the same privileges as the next.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I AM MAMA – because of my love – and loving is what I do best. ⠀ ⠀ This is our battle cry! … I. AM. MAMA! ⠀ ⠀ George, we hear you. And we are here.⠀ I AM MAMA!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Declare it. Live it. Share it. ⠀ #mamasforjustice⠀ #iammama♥️ It should be a national holiday. Period. Happy Juneteenth! #blacklivesmatter Repost from my dear friend @yaanikingmonds • I remember hearing my mother say a variation of each of these warnings to my brothers before they went out or even just drilling it into them. She was a cop so she knew exactly what she was preparing them for and warning them about. (I got a different talk about protecting my body but that’s a post for another day) This hurt hearing this young man say this laundry list of things we’re taught we can’t do for our own PROTECTION. And yet we’ve seen time and again it’s still often not enough. I pray our black mothers and fathers see a day where this isn’t the speech given before their sons and daughters leave the house. That the phrase “I’ll see you later” doesn’t have to be followed by “God willing”. And not because anyone can go at anytime, but because our lives are in danger at anytime. I only have his tik tok handle, but thank you @skoodupcam for posting this. #BlackLivesMatter #BlackFreedomMatters 🖤✊🏾 It will captivate you. It will shake you. It will leave you heart broken, awe inspired, humbled and hopeful. My dear friend Oge Egbuonu poured her entire heart, soul, and being into this master piece. It was a labor of deep love. (In)Visible Portraits is her feature documentary directorial debut that shatters the too-often invisible otherizing of Black women in America and reclaims the true narrative as told in their own words. The documentary illuminates the history of how we got here, dismantles the false framework of the present-day reality, and celebrates the extraordinary heritage of exceptional Black women who have come before as well as igniting hope for the next generation of young black women who will lead the world of tomorrow. Follow my friend and director @ogetheyogi and the @invisibleportraits for more updates! #InVisiblePortraits We are talking about the survival and well-being of our next generation and the mothers who will raise them!! There is NOTHING more important. On average in America, Black women have a maternal mortality 3-4x higher than white women. In NY alone, that rate is 12x higher! WE MUST SAVE OUR MOMS!! Please go to the link in my bio and donate to blackmamasmatter.org Repost from @blackmamasmatter • #Georgia has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country! Maternal health programs are at risk of losing crucial funding. The state of Georgia can do better by restoring funds into maternal and reproductive health programs and services! . . . #SaveOurMoms #SaveGAMoms #BlackMamasMatter #RuralMamasMatter Repost from @mspackyetti • WE HAVE SOLUTIONS. WE CAN WIN. Together, these 8 use of force policies can reduce police violence up to 70%. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They don’t take an act of Congress.
