Regina Hall Instagram – This week’s #WCW is highlighting Leah Penniman, a soil steward, food sovereignty activist, and Co-Director and Farm Manager of @SoulFireFarm, a #BIPOC (black, indigenous and people of color)-centered community farm in Grafton, #NewYork, working to uproot racism in the food system.
@LeahPenniman is also the author of @FarmingWhileBlack : Soul Fire Farms Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land, the first comprehensive manual for African-heritage people ready to reclaim their rightful place of dignified agency in the food system.
Black communities suffer disproportionately from illnesses related to lack of access to fresh food and healthy natural ecosystems. Through her works Leah is committed to ending racism and injustice in our food system. “Stewarding our own land, growing our own food, educating our own youth, participating in our own healthcare and justice systems, this is the source of real power and dignity.” #SoulFireFarm #foodjustice #foodsovereignty #blackwomxnfarmers #blackfarmers #urbangardening | Posted on 28/May/2020 02:38:41
