These images are powerful and painful statements of our current climate. And evidence that we need change. Praying that we can rise and move towards justice… β’

In a system that doesnβt seem to value Black bodies, we need leaders who fight for social justice despite the voices trying to silence them. @TamikaDMallory is one of those leaders.
A civil rights activist, who joined the @NationalActionNetwork (NAN) at eleven, Tamika helped organize the 2017 @WomensMarch, a worldwide protest for women’s rights, immigration reform, LGBTQIA rights, health-care reform, environmental reform, racial justice, and racial equality. She is also co-founder of @UntilFreedom, an intersectional #socialjustice organization rooted in the leadership of diverse people of color to address systemic and racial injustice, investing in those who are the most directly impacted by cyclical poverty, inequality, and #StateViolence.
Since the murder of #GeorgeFloyd, Tamika has been protesting on the front lines, using her voice to champion the needs and demands of our community, while empowering others to contribute their voice and engage in the political process to #CreateChange. βIt has always been the people who are least comfortable that have made the greatest impact, when they have decided they are willing to take the extra step, in order to protect their lives and fight back against the system.β #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter #InvestInBlackFutures #NoJusticeNoPeace #WCW

This weekβs #WCW is highlighting Leah Penniman, a soil steward, food sovereignty activist, and Co-Director and Farm Manager of @SoulFireFarm, a #BIPOC (black, indigenous and people of color)-centered community farm in Grafton, #NewYork, working to uproot racism in the food system.
@LeahPenniman is also the author of @FarmingWhileBlack : Soul Fire Farms Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land, the first comprehensive manual for African-heritage people ready to reclaim their rightful place of dignified agency in the food system.
Black communities suffer disproportionately from illnesses related to lack of access to fresh food and healthy natural ecosystems. Through her works Leah is committed to ending racism and injustice in our food system. βStewarding our own land, growing our own food, educating our own youth, participating in our own healthcare and justice systems, this is the source of real power and dignity.β #SoulFireFarm #foodjustice #foodsovereignty #blackwomxnfarmers #blackfarmers #urbangardening
This weeks #WCW is energy & climate justice lawyer Raya Salter (@Greengirlmagic). As the only WOC on the NY state climate action council, a body that will chart the nationβs leading climate goals- made possible by #grassroots organizing, Raya is all about making #NewYork more healthy, resilient, and just.
Raya also serves as Lead Policy Organizer for NY Renews, a coalition of nearly 200 environmental, justice, faith, labor, and community groups, and the force behind the nationβs most progressive climate law, New Yorkβs Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. At NY Renews, Raya will focus on the implementation of the CLCPA to ensure it is laser focused on not just emissions but also on racial and economic justice. “What we’re doing is, we’re looking at the legal tools that we have, and where we end up is that we need to look at energy law and policy through the lens of environmental justice, human rights, indigenous rights and climate justice to get at some of those answers.” #climateleadership #greengirlmagic #nyrenews #climatejusticeissocialjustice #environmentaljustice
This week Iβm dedicating my #WCW to social entrepreneur and environmental activist, Angelou Ezeilo. @AngelouEzeilo is the founder and CEO of the Greening Youth Foundation (@greeningyouth), a #NonProfit that aims to change the face of conservation in the United States, by engaging #underrepresented youth and young adults while connecting them to the outdoors and careers in conservation.
Her love for the environment dates back to her childhood when she had the chance to escape the dense urban streets of Jersey City, #NewJersey and spend summers in upstate #NewYork with her family.
Angelou is also an author! Her new book, “Engage, Connect, Protect – Empowering Diverse Youth as Environmental Leaders” highlights the need to recognize the work of environmental champions in #CommunitiesOfColor. The book features eye-opening critique of the cultural divide in #environmentalism, and is a resource guide for ways businesses, educators, and policymakers can engage with diverse youth as the next generation of environmental leaders through culturally relevant learning and career opportunities. βI am determined to continue to introduce more youth of color to environmental careers because our planet and our society needs them.β

Had a chat with @queenlatifah about the Queen Collective, a program that accelerates racial and gender equality behind the camera. We also spoke to filmmakers @samm_knowles @__ugonna @nadine_natour about their films that will premiere on @bet
