Remembering the brief period when I was playing with Bill Evans and Eddie Gomez in 1968 before I started with Miles. Only one record was released of this group ‘Bill Evans at the Montreux Jazz Festival’ but it wasn’t the only one that we recorded… Stay tuned!
“John was a very spiritual guy, but he was also very magnetic. So I understood why Elvin had to play the way he played. Because whatever you could throw at John, John was like a sponge—he absorbed it. So I realized on an energetic level how amazing John Coltrane was”
-Jack Dejohnette
This was an intense Trios rendition of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Wouldy‘n You”…hope you enjoy it.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the great Jimmy Cobb. Jimmy blew me away with his playing on the Miles Davis Kind of Blue recording and I have been a fan ever since. Jimmy left an amazing musical legacy which will never go away. May he be at peace.

Quote from an interview with Ted Panken 2009
I am sad to hear about the passing of Neil Peart. We were friends and I admired his music and his powerhouse drumming. My sympathies to his family and band members, may he be at peace.

Throwback Thursday:
Miles Davis Quintet 1969 in Antibes, France
We lost a great artist in McCoy Tyner, I had the honor of playing with him in the Coltrane group and his own groups. I am truly grateful for those moments, my condolences to the family and may he be at peace. — Jack

The great composer, arranger band leader and saxophonist Jimmy Heath has passed away.
He left us a treasure trove of his music to remember him by.
I had the good fortune to have played with this masterful artist!
He will be missed.
My heartfelt sympathies go to his family

“Have you heard”…its been that long, 50 years…wow!
It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of one of our dearest friends, John Cummings, well known for London based Serious Productions, producers of many festivals and shows. John raised the bar as a promoter, developer of artists and all round visionary in music and the arts. Working with him was always a pleasure and full of laughs. He was one of the most caring and generous people we have known. He will be greatly missed by all those who have been touched by him but mostly by his loving and close family, Ginnie & Kate, our hearts go out to you both. Both Lydia and I are honored to have John and his family as our friends.
We hope everyone can find peace during this unsettling time in all our lives.
