A short solo excerpt from my new piece with @sydneydanceco @australianstringquartet and choreographer @rafaelbonachela dancer @juliette.barton which would have premiered this week in Sydney but has been postponed due to the coronavirus. ‘Impermanence’ is about the fragility of human life and our environment and how so much of what we consider to be permanent in our world can in fact be destroyed in an instant. That the current crisis reminds of this is certainly a cruel irony I never expected. Wishing everyone strength to get through these hard times.

Very excited to be this years composer in residence for the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra HR Sinfonie and was sad to miss this beautiful performance yesterday of my concerto for @katiamariellelabeque with #andresorozcoestrada conducting but was really happy to watch the live stream at home and even better with my son directing a version for me alone:)

No Time For Love Like Now. I provided the orchestration on a powerful new song from Michael Stipe & Big Red Machine. The collaboration came about when my brother @aarondessner shared a folder of new @bigredmachineadjv music with Michael last year. No Time For Love Like Now was written last fall but when the reality of the COVID pandemic and social distancing and self-isolation descended the words felt like they were written about this time. Justin Vernon, Brad Cook, JT Bates, Thomas Barlett, Clarice Jensen and Yuki Numata Resnick also perform on the track. Video directed by @michaelbrowndesign.
Michael Stipe & Big Red Machine have also designed a “No Time For Love Like Now” t-shirt and tote. All proceeds from the sales will go to the Equal Justice Initiative and COVID-19 Protest Relief Fund.
