I know every mother can understand how I feel when I say that my son is my greatest accomplishment and at the same time I can take almost no credit for the incredible human being that he is. He has experienced more loss than any 18 year old should ever know this early in life. He continues to face new daily challenges with vulnerability & ferocious focus. I feel so full of joy today. I have the most beautiful life. Raj is home from the hospital. He had a blood transfusion. He had his IV’s in his legs and a tube through his nose to feed him because he had stopped eating there. We thought we were losing him. Kass has had him since Kass was 4 years old. Raj is Kass’ best friend. He didn’t see his cat for 5 years though and then got Raj back a few years ago but with kidney disease. 😓 Kass has cared for Raj’s health all on his own & his mental health as well diagnosing & treating Raj’s new extreme fear of abandonment as well by visiting Raj outside of the animal hospital in a mask so that Raj knows he’s not being left again. Guess what???? Raj is eating again!!!! He’s doing well!!! When Raj was in the ER, I was out of the country working. Kass gave his personal debt card at 18 yrs old to the doctor in the ER to pay for his cat without a second thought. In deep gratitude for our health both physical & mental and Kass’ grandmothers health during COVID. Kass hasn’t seen gagoo for almost 10 months to ensure her safety. 😭 This is the man my son is. #ImWithYou #singlemomstrong #katemckinnonlove
Let our kids do it themselves…. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to not fix things for my kids in order to feel needed in life
“I can’t finish tree cutting tonight, I have a lot of homework…” Kid has college all day, then works in the yard all day into the night and then homework all night AND cooks us all vegan dinner. How are you guys raising your kids to work hard in every area? How are we teaching them to give back to their community & to stand up for those that are in need? How are we teaching them that nothing is impossible and no form of work is below us? After this? Last night we lit 6 candles for the loved ones I’ve lost in the last 5 years. I celebrate their lives that go on and honor the lessons both painful and joyful that each soul gracefully offered to me. I have always been the lucky one to have loved at all. #Día de Muertos

This morning MC left this by our bed for me before he left for work. It’s a probiotic, crushed ice with carrot juice/tangerine that he juiced himself this morning 😳 and ginger that he went out and bought for me. The incredibly beautiful @corkcicle water container is my bday gift from Kassius. Kass wants me to drink water. I love everything about this side table right now. ☺️ #tobeknown #IAMarichman

Sometimes in life we weather storms that make us feel like we want to give up. Like the world would be better off without us. This is my best friend @kymberly_marciano We have been friends for 20 years but it’s who shows up for you in your darkest hours that can transform your heart & give you new hope in the world. This past year my best friend & my son’s godmother @suzannewhang died and my only son lost all of the irreplaceable milestones that are a first for my Mexican family. I was let down again by people that I shouldn’t have believed in again to begin with and then the universe said “it’s all right here Vanessa” Your tribe of equals, your son’s real family, your love & permission to soar higher than you ever have before. Fly with your flock. Sometimes the most beautiful & powerful people are right in front of us if we just get out of our own way. Today I wish for every one of you…. love. It’s not luck or magic that brings true love into your life. It’s simply never ever giving up. Don’t give up today. Believe in love.
