I have “accomplished” nothing on my lock down to do list. Nada. Not one single thing, don’t even think about looking in my garage or closet. I have spent some time examining my programming around progress, productivity and accomplishing. I’ll have to get back to you on that front… I’m still processing. Meantime, I have read some incredible books. Many of them recommended by my sister wife @christinelennonplus2, who somehow intuits just what the literary doctor orders…. this one made me ugly cry, in a good way. And it felt like a much yearned for trip to Italy. What are you reading? I just started one my mom sent, #Hamnet and it’s great. Couldn’t put this one down. I know I’m a couple of years late to the party for this book, but I had to share. It’s a departure for me, not my usual fiction or memoir, it’s history that reads like true crime, which makes it fascinating but wholly heart-breaking. As someone who will proudly celebrate my Irish roots tomorrow, I’m grateful that this deep dive into the history of “The Troubles” is such an accessible and captivating read, yet pained, of course, that these stories are true. In the past few days alone, India has seen over 300,000 new infections and more than 2,500 COVID-19-related deaths, setting global records as one of the most pandemic-plagued countries around the world.
Plan International @planinternational is addressing the needs of vulnerable children and their families during this difficult time by providing hygiene items, food aid, cash support, personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers, medical equipment for health centres and raising awareness for COVID-19 prevention and vaccines. Donations will:
Empower health workers to meet supply shortages with PPE (N-95 masks, gloves, body coveralls, etc.) and vital equipment.
Set-up temporary COVID-19 care centres in hotspot areas, servicing poor and vulnerable communities across 20 districts.
Distribute hygiene kits filled with vital sanitation supplies.
Reach hard-hit families with food baskets, sharing essential nutrition.
Provide families with vouchers to support livelihoods through lockdowns.

Every year on #InternationalWomensDay the world celebrates the accomplishments of women while shining a light on the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality. Today I am joining @plancanada to shine a light on the setback to girls’ education and how it’s deeply impacting the future of girls and the next generation of women leaders.
No one’s future should be decided for them, but for girls around the world, the pandemic is doing just that. From job losses and disrupted education to increased gender-based violence, the setbacks girls and women are facing have reached a critical point.
• 11.2 million girls and young women may drop out or not have access to school in 2021 due to the pandemic’s economic impact alone. That amounts to over 30,000 a day and one girl every 3 seconds. Before the pandemic, roughly 132 million girls around the world were still not in school. (UNESCO, 2020)
• COVID-19 pandemic will have caused a one-third reduction in progress towards ending gender-based violence by 2030. (UNFPA, 2020)
Education is a fundamental human right. It provides knowledge, opportunity and confidence. We must invest in girls’ education to protect their rights and decision-making power so they can be leaders today and in the future. Plan International Canada works with children and young people – especially young women and girls – so that they can realize their rights by continuing to strengthen their knowledge, skills and agency.
