In recognition of this important awareness milestone and in partnership with @bevocal.speakup, I want to talk to you a bit about my story, and my journey to getting to a place where I feel comfortable sharing these parts of me with all of you. The truth is, we all struggle sometimes - and I’m certainly no exception. Living with a mental health condition can be hard. Everything that’s going on in the world can make that experience even harder. Now more than ever, know that your feelings are valid, and that it's ok not to feel ok 100% of the time. But also know that, when you put in the work, it can get better. I’ve had times when things were really, really tough. I’ve felt isolated, out of control, ashamed. But I got through it - and I continue to get through it - because I’ve figured out that when I lean on my loved ones, include professional support in my routine, and take care of myself through things like healthy eating and meditation, I can get to my “ok.” The key for me is realizing that I’m not alone – that I don’t have to do this alone. You are not alone, either. Help is always available, and recognizing that you need help and reaching out for it is a sign of strength and courage. If you feel like you can’t go to a friend or family member for support, I urge you to connect with a mental health resource. I’ve tagged some here. Chyler Leigh Instagram – It’s hard not to feel pressure to post that super-filtered, superhero version of yourself on #socialmedia. I know I do. Social media, and Instagram in particular, is so much about presenting your best self and best life – but we all know that only showing that “perfect” content isn’t the full story, and can make you and others feel not-so-good.

Don’t be afraid to show that life isn’t picture-perfect – there is power in authenticity. By being open about who you are, and about your experiences and what you believe in, you are sending a message that it’s ok to get “real” – and it can empower others to do the same. As we have all seen recently, #socialmedia is a powerful tool that can create real change. I’m proud to work with @bevocal.speakup to help make social media a healthier and safer space by continuing to share my story and advocate for #mentalhealth.

I want to hear from you. How will you make social media a healthier environment? And if you’re looking for tips, head to @bevocal.speakup and explore their amazing resources on this and so much more.

Repost from @reginayhicks

Today is Freedom Day. Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free 155 years ago. Sadly it took a full two years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation speech before the news reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth is a symbol of total freedom. Recognizing Juneteenth nationally would be one more way of acknowledging the intrinsic value of Black people and their history and contribution to the wealth and prosperity of this country.

Learn a little more about today and what it truly means. Continue to educate yourselves. This day is more than a hashtag.
Celebrate the day- watch a movie or read a book or register to vote or take a moment to learn something about black culture. Invest in Black People by uplifting and supporting Black led organizations and Black owned businesses today and everyday.
Celebrate the culture. Recognize the struggle.
