I know this picture might seem a little odd to post because you can’t see either my or @melissabenoist ‘s face, but it captures a moment last year I will never forget. This wasn’t taken during a rehearsal or on set. This was taken in my home. This was a night when I desperately needed a hug. This was when I was so low, I asked for help when gathering any courage to do so is something that is terribly hard for me to do in the first place.
But this right here is a perfect example of the woman Melissa is. It was a FULL work day for her (hence her “Kara” ponytail) and she (and Katie McGrath – 📸 credit here, whom I absolutely adore and am so grateful for) came to my house with a couple bottles of wine and we just hugged and cried it out. She’s a woman with a heart so big, compassion so great, she can – and absolutely will – change the world for better. She is as bright a light as there ever could be and has always helped guide me through darker times.
I’ve learned SO much from her. I’ve watched her fight through some of the toughest moments in her life and I’ve never seen someone come out the other side with such grace and determination and bravery to help encourage others to do the same.
What else can I say? I love this girl. Happy birthday, Sis. You are an angel and a gift to this world.
You sure have been one for me 👯♀️
PS… the striped shirt scenario was not planned. Sisters… ya know what I mean?
Reposting this golden oldie. I think this was our first day ever working together. I had no idea what I was doing on a comic book show or how I landed the job of a lifetime. I was trying to figure out how to hold my hands on my hips in as authoritative position as I could and would look over at @melissabenoist and @davidharewood and be nothing but inspired to stand taller and believe in myself. Grateful is an understatement for me.
This has not only been the greatest, most challenging (physically and emotionally) project I’ve ever been a part of, I met family I never even knew I had. I met my #soulsister and I met our #spacedad.
And… I met Alex Danvers. She has taught me more about myself than I could’ve imagined. She taught me to be proud of who I am for exactly who I am.
6 seasons is a rare gift in this business. It’s even more rare to absolutely adore and admire and enjoy the people you work with, let alone spend upwards towards 16 hours a day together 😅
But this show for all of us has been a journey much like Kara’s herself. Full of adventure, excitement, love, discovery, risk, and tremendous strength. We’ve leaned on and learned from each other. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t wait for you all to see what happens as we near the end of this season. My many thanks to everyone who has created the beautiful stories we on this show are lucky enough to tell. I will always love our cast and crew. We will always be #strongertogether @supergirlcw #season6 #danverssisters
The last few months have meant a lot less face-to-face interactions, which has given way to more time spent online socializing and scrolling. So I want to remind everyone that it is so, so important that we are careful and thoughtful with what we put out into the online universe. Words and images matter. And YOU have the power to use them in a way that creates a safer environment for those around you.
I want to share some tips for bringing more positivity to social media and the online space, in partnership with @bevocal.speakup:
– Use non-judgmental, people-first language when describing someone.
– Don’t make assumptions about people or their stories – you don’t know what they might be going through.
– Be authentic – maybe that means not editing your photos, maybe it means being truly honest about how you are feeling that day.
– If you see something unsafe happening on social media, or someone getting bullied – report that post or comment to the platform. You can also speak up about it if you feel safe and comfortable doing so.
Together, through this amazing community, we can take action to support ourselves and each other. What will you commit to doing to help make our online experiences healthier? Let me know in the comments!
And to learn more, visit BeVocalSpeakUp.com or head over to @bevocal.speakup and give them a follow.

So here’s the thing… I am IMMENSELY proud of these girls. I mean… IMMENSELY. @olivianikkanen & @izabelavidovic not only gave beautiful performances of their own, they impeccably portrayed the #DanversSisters we’ve all (myself included 😘) come to know and love. It was my absolute honor to encourage them and watch their creative choices, sprinkling in some future Alex & Kara winks along the way. Grateful is an understatement. Proud is undeniable. Show some love to these ladies. They deserve nothing less ❤️ @supergirlcw

September is #NationalSuicidePreventionMonth. In recognition of this important awareness milestone and in partnership with @bevocal.speakup, I want to talk to you a bit about my story, and my journey to getting to a place where I feel comfortable sharing these parts of me with all of you.
The truth is, we all struggle sometimes – and I’m certainly no exception. Living with a mental health condition can be hard. Everything that’s going on in the world can make that experience even harder. Now more than ever, know that your feelings are valid, and that it’s ok not to feel ok 100% of the time.
But also know that, when you put in the work, it can get better. I’ve had times when things were really, really tough. I’ve felt isolated, out of control, ashamed. But I got through it – and I continue to get through it – because I’ve figured out that when I lean on my loved ones, include professional support in my routine, and take care of myself through things like healthy eating and meditation, I can get to my “ok.”
The key for me is realizing that I’m not alone – that I don’t have to do this alone. You are not alone, either. Help is always available, and recognizing that you need help and reaching out for it is a sign of strength and courage. If you feel like you can’t go to a friend or family member for support, I urge you to connect with a mental health resource. I’ve tagged some here.

This is wonderfully said. Thank you Regina for your words. They are SO meaningful and SO important! #juneteenth #juneteenthcelebration #blm
Repost from @reginayhicks
Today is Freedom Day. Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free 155 years ago. Sadly it took a full two years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation speech before the news reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth is a symbol of total freedom. Recognizing Juneteenth nationally would be one more way of acknowledging the intrinsic value of Black people and their history and contribution to the wealth and prosperity of this country.
Learn a little more about today and what it truly means. Continue to educate yourselves. This day is more than a hashtag.
Celebrate the day- watch a movie or read a book or register to vote or take a moment to learn something about black culture. Invest in Black People by uplifting and supporting Black led organizations and Black owned businesses today and everyday.
Celebrate the culture. Recognize the struggle.

It’s hard not to feel pressure to post that super-filtered, superhero version of yourself on #socialmedia. I know I do. Social media, and Instagram in particular, is so much about presenting your best self and best life – but we all know that only showing that “perfect” content isn’t the full story, and can make you and others feel not-so-good.
Don’t be afraid to show that life isn’t picture-perfect – there is power in authenticity. By being open about who you are, and about your experiences and what you believe in, you are sending a message that it’s ok to get “real” – and it can empower others to do the same. As we have all seen recently, #socialmedia is a powerful tool that can create real change. I’m proud to work with @bevocal.speakup to help make social media a healthier and safer space by continuing to share my story and advocate for #mentalhealth.
I want to hear from you. How will you make social media a healthier environment? And if you’re looking for tips, head to @bevocal.speakup and explore their amazing resources on this and so much more.

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. A day dedicated to coming together to support people living with and impacted by mental health conditions.
You don’t need to be a professional advocate or mental health expert to help create change for yourself and your community. I’ve partnered with @bevocal.speakup to create this list of ways that you can start conversations about and take action for mental health:
– Vote! Voting in both local and national elections is an amazing way to use your voice to support candidates who will advocate for protecting mental health services and access.
– Speak up for mental health on social media. I’ve talked about this A LOT these past few months, but it remains so very important. Keeping it real, using thoughtful language and imagery, and lifting others up on social media can go a long way in creating a safer online space for yourself and others.
– Advocate for a mentally healthier workplace environment: Be Vocal partners @namicommunicate and @nationalcouncil have incredible resources on their websites around creating a stigma-free and supportive workplace culture – no matter what your workplace looks like!
– Check in with your friends and family about their mental health. It may seem like a small thing, but texting or FaceTiming a loved one and simply asking, “How are you?” or “How are things going lately?” can go a really long way. It can even change someone’s life.
– Visit BeVocalSpeakUp.com for more ideas on how to speak up for mental health.
Remember: change starts with you. Change starts with all of us. How will you advocate for mental health?

October is the start of our latest campaign – LEVEL UP, with a powerful introduction by our CCO, Chyler Leigh @chy_leigh & some awesome designs by our CBO, Angelo Lagdameo @anglives. The year 2020 has been one filled with challenges. It has revealed our flaws but it’s also highlighted our strengths. At Create Change we don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. We believe in the importance of this day – today – while also being mindful of the need to focus on continuous improvement. We strive to overcome obstacles and find ways to enhance the quality of life for ourselves, our loved ones and our communities. We’ll explore what we’ve learned this year and share some tools we’ve collected to position each one of us more strongly for 2021. Learn more at createchange.me/level-up-campaign/

There is NO ROOM for bullying – of ANY kind – and especially on social media. Words are powerful tools. Choose them wisely #kindnessmatters #lovematters #mentalhealthmatters #bevocalspeakup
Please read the tips below to know more about the effects of bullying and what you can do about it ❤️
Repost from @bevocal.speakup

October is #NationalBullyingPreventionMonth. Sadly, bullying can happen in many different settings, including in school, at work and online. And it can have a major impact on #mentalhealth. With people spending more time online and on social media this year, we want to share some ways you can help prevent, address and cope with cyberbullying:
– Unfollow, mute or block users who may be partaking in bullying behaviors. Blocking will prevent users from finding your profile and following you.
– On Instagram, you can report a comment you think is intended to bully or harass. Tap View all Comments under a post; swipe left and tap on the exclamation point symbol; you can then report the comment as abusive content.
– Before you post, stop and think about the effect it might have on others. Ask yourself: could a post, story or comment you want to share be perceived as mean-spirited or bullying? You can become a part of the solution to making social media a more positive place.
– It can be difficult to remember in the moment, but bullying or criticism can be a sign of someone’s pain; it may have nothing to do with you and everything to do with the bully’s own personal struggles.
– And remember: it’s ok to acknolwedge how the bullying made you feel. It’s ok to be upset. It can be helpful to reach out to a friend or loved one for encouragement and support.
You can also click the link in our bio for more #socialmedia tips, or head to StopBullying.gov for resources on bullying prevention.
