Lisa Ray Instagram – I’ve been a passionate collector and supporter of the contemporary Indian arts scene ever since I moved to Bombay in the early 90s. I recall spending a large part of my income as a model on art. As time went by I sought to refine my taste and discover #LesserKnownGreats in the process.
The media, patronage and the gallery system traditionally served Indian artists well as part of a nationalist attempt such as the Bengal School, or movements such as the Progressive Artists’ Group.
Those who weren’t a part of these, or lived away from the art centres of Bombay, Calcutta or New Delhi, had a great struggle to be as well recognised. And amongst those were #WhoBrokeTheMould like Gogi Saroj Pal, Anupam Sud, Paritosh Sen (one of my personal favourites) Ved Nayar, S. Nandagopal and others. @dag.world explores some of India’s greatest artists who deserve to be better known featuring in #TheCentumSeries until 17 June 2021…
