I’m On Golden Pond. I’m serious. Anyone recall the Oscar winning film staring Henry Fonda and Katherine-stiff-upper-lip Hepburn? I currently find myself in New Hampshire (‘live free or die’ read the licence plates) checked into @manorongoldenpond
It’s on little Squam lake, close to where the 1981 movie was filmed.

It’s quiet and idyllic except for the Harley bike fanatics numbering in the thousands who have gathered for bike week Laconia. Truth be known, these largely greying, doo-ragged guys (and some gals) add a lot of colour to this New England hamlet and have been exceedingly polite to me, even while checking out my ass.

If you know me, you know I adore when seeming opposites collide. Sparks. And life.

I’ve been a passionate collector and supporter of the contemporary Indian arts scene ever since I moved to Bombay in the early 90s. I recall spending a large part of my income as a model on art. As time went by I sought to refine my taste and discover #LesserKnownGreats in the process.
The media, patronage and the gallery system traditionally served Indian artists well as part of a nationalist attempt such as the Bengal School, or movements such as the Progressive Artists’ Group.
Those who weren’t a part of these, or lived away from the art centres of Bombay, Calcutta or New Delhi, had a great struggle to be as well recognised. And amongst those were #WhoBrokeTheMould like Gogi Saroj Pal, Anupam Sud, Paritosh Sen (one of my personal favourites) Ved Nayar, S. Nandagopal and others. @dag.world explores some of India’s greatest artists who deserve to be better known featuring in #TheCentumSeries until 17 June 2021…

Close To The Bone is a masterpiece by @lisaraniray
I reviewed this book many years back. Link is in the description for the full review edited by one of the finest editors I have worked with @radhika_dutt. Original review was published at @millenniumpost .

“Close to the Bone” | NOT JUST A CANCER MEMOIR
Author: Lisa Ray
Price: Rs 599
Publisher: @harpercollinsin
“My cancer which I jokingly call The Caner (you have to laugh or as they say, you’ll die) – is a rare little orphan cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow.” This quote is not an anecdote neither a proposition nor a motivation – it is all about one life – the life of a successful actor who overcame devastating cancer at the age of 37. Lisa Ray, one of India’s first supermodels, actor, cancer survivor, mother of twins through surrogacy and as she defines herself “nomad”, has come up with her memoir Close to the Bone.
The book is a gripping story of a life, of struggle and loving ourselves. Autobiographies are nothing new in the sphere of Indian literature. Then why should a reader read this book? At a time when we are struggling with space and momentum, relationship and principles, moving on and compromising – this book lets the reader rethink their life. This is not a self-help book but a book to look into the world with more love and affection. It is a story which many survivors around us want to tell because the life of a cancer survivor is not only about cancer but also about enduring love, unexpected betrayal, successes achieved and of course, the fighting struggle for survival. At the end, readers will be taken to the beginning of a new life and to a life where they can reinvent themselves. In the end, this book gives courage to the soul along with bountiful of fresh air to breathe.

The kindness of each benefactor is equal, and thus my love for them is equal. Maybe my benefactors of patience are even kinder to me, as they allow me to practice the perfection of patience. I am thus very grateful to all those who do not like me and make me tame my anger. At the same time, I feel great compassion for their sorrow, but as they allow me to practice patience and my anger and jealousy to gradually diminish, they are my teachers.
Thus, in the end, when I attain enlightenment and all my anger and jealousy are no more, it is due to their kindness. For this reason, I love them greatly.” – Garchen Rinpoche

Garchen Rinpoche spent decades in jail during the Chinese revolution that began in 1959, and is deeply admired for the way he practiced diligently and unwaveringly despite the hardships and torture he endured during that time, never losing compassion for beings, including his captors. More info can be learned about Garchen Rinpoche from the documentary entitled: “For the Benefit of All Beings” – it can be found and seen any time online freely for whatever one is willing to donate at www.ForTheBenefitOfAllBeings.com

This book is something more than a travelogue or memoir. Its a manifestation of life which penetrates the soul rapidly and lies within you. Its the biggest celebration of the higher self, which comprises integrity, harmony, uniqueness and generocity and illuminates the world. For me.
