In attempts to assimilate, she distanced herself from her South Asian heritage and identity. Years later, living in the United States, she realized that the customs, practices, and even food of her native culture that had once made her different—everything from ashwagandha to prayer—were now being homogenized and marketed for good health, often at a premium by white people to white people.’ @harper_wave Repost from @fariha_roisin using @RepostRegramApp - “Who Is Wellness For?” is ~FINALLY~ available for pre-order 🌟 Part memoir, part journalistic investigation this book is an exploration of what wellness is in a world where we are denied truth, access, care and accountability to each other and thus the Earth. How can we be well in an unwell society? This is something I’ve been asking myself since I was a child. There are many fallacies we are living through and that disconnection is also represented in our (dis)connection to ourselves and each other. The more we deny truth (collective or individual) the further we run from ourselves. I’m excited for you to see the research, dedication and thoughtfulness I brought to this book. It was very fulfilling to journey into the world of Vedic scripture, Muslim Astrology and the significance of tattooing as an act of ritual to the divine. Grateful for everyone that had a hand in helping this book come to life. Thank you to my sister and my father for everything. Thank you to my friends who carried me and let me fall apart. Thank you to everyone at the @harper_wave team… If you’d like to pre-order the book it’s in the link in my bio. In gratitude ❤️‍🔥
