We’re back! Saga returns in January with a massive double-sized issue, somehow still for our regular price of just $2.99. No cash-grab variant covers, no gimmicky renumbering, just more gloriously graphic sex and violence, as we begin the second half of the most epic adventure in comics. Thanks for your patience, Saga family!
***UPDATE – Several posters have been randomly selected by Hamburger and contacted via DM; thanks to everyone who posted!***Delicious and nutritious new Saga this Wednesday! I’ve still got a few of these signed prints (that have sold for a ridiculous $200 on eBay thanks to the impossible-to-get autograph from Fiona Staples), and if you’d like one, just say so in the comments, and my loyal correspondence-dachshund Hamburger K. Vaughan will arbitrarily yet decisively select a few lucky recipients. Thanks again for your patience, and please support your local comic shop! #saga #imagecomics #tasty
In comic shops next week (so you may want to ask your friendly neighborhood retailer to set one aside today), it’s PAPER GIRLS: THE COMPLETE STORY, an awesome new paperback edition that even a precocious 10-year-old can hold aloft! This collection contains ALL THIRTY ISSUES of the Eisner Award-winning series for less than fifty bucks, and features a stunning new cover by co-creator @cliffchiang. More than anything I’ve ever written, I think this time-twisty adventure really benefits from being devoured in just a few sittings (or maybe one epic binge-read), so this edition makes the perfect gift for any young adult in your life who’s ready to discover that the 1980s were actually a much shittier decade than our nostalgic generation may have led them to believe. And there’s a fantastic adaptation in the works from @amazonstudios with four of the best young actors ever put to film, so order this book now so you can be one of those annoying readers who brags about loving a thing before everybody else got hip to it. #PaperGirls #ImageComics #MyDaughterLikesAllTheSwearing
You forgot to reserve your copy of Saga 55, you silly Ghüs! We return January 26, but if you want to guarantee you’ll get your hands on a copy of our double-sized first issue back (still only $2.99!), you have to reserve one with your friendly neighborhood comic shop BEFORE this coming Monday. No variant covers to artificially boost our sales, so it’ll be interesting to see how many actual readers are still out there after our decadent three year “intermission.” @fionastaples and I greatly appreciate everyone’s patience, and we hope you’ll find this crazy next arc worth the wait. Stay safe out there, pals! #saga #imagecomics #supportyourlocalcomicshop
One week left to reserve SAGA 55 from your local comic shop! @entertainmentweekly has your first look at Hazel’s long-awaited return. #saga #imagecomics #entertainmentweekly
Some unexpected hard news about Y: THE LAST MAN just posted by our showrunner @elizaaclarkw, BUT…this is not the first time in twenty years I’ve seen Yorick & co. escape the seemingly inescapable! I love this show, and I’m very hopeful Y will find a new home, not just because it happens to employ more extraordinary women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community—both in front of and behind the camera—than any project I’ve ever been a part of, but because they’ve made something spectacular, the kind of thoughtful, contemporary, fearless evolution of the comic that @pia.guerra and I always wanted. These next three episodes are the very best of the season, so please keep watching, and if you want to see this journey continue as much as I do, we encourage you to let the world know: #YLivesOn

Inadvertently cosplaying as Yorick this final rainy day of Comic Con. If you weren’t lucky enough to catch episode seven of Y: THE LAST MAN with the cast and special Zoom guest @pia.guerra last night, I implore you to catch it the second it drops on Hulu late tonight. I know I’m biased, but I think Y’s evolved to be one of the most daring and unique shows on television, and I fucking LOVE these final four episodes of the season. Anyway, I’m headed over for my fourth and final signing of the con, from 2pm until whenever you nice people are done with me. Bringing a big box of those Saga prints signed by @fionastaples herself. Will endeavor to keep them dry. Please be on the lookout for my monkey. #ythelastman #fxonhulu #saga #whereismymonkey
Awesome news, students of Texas! Looking out for your best interests, a school district in Leander announced this week that it will ban eleven books (including Y: THE LAST MAN, co-created with @pia.guerra) from its classrooms, libraries, etc. I greatly appreciate this, because as I’ve learned from the last twenty years of people–on the right AND left–attempting to ban Y, young people LOVE being told what they’re not allowed to read, and are definitely never driven straight to whatever books adults don’t want them to see. So students, I implore you, respect your elders and read as many exciting assigned texts as you’d like, so long as you NEVER look at even one page of ANY of the extremely dangerous works listed above. Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.
My full NYCC schedule below! Hi, friends. I’m excited/terrified to leave my quarantine cave and see some of you brave souls at the upcoming New York Comic Con. I’ll be signing all four days of the show, and I never charge for my autograph, but in order to say hello to as many of you fine folks as possible, let’s please limit it to FIVE ITEMS per visit. Also, because of covid protocols, I unfortunately won’t be able to take my usual awkward photos with you, BUT, feel free to Photoshop yourself (or your favorite tyrannical dictator) next to me in the above image, which should be almost as cool as being nervously sweated on by me in person. Anyway, I’ll apparently be signing at 1-A (right above panel hall 1A21/1A22 in Artist Alley?) each day, from 2 to 4pm on Thursday, 4 to 6pm on Friday, 4 to 6pm on Saturday, and closing it out on Sunday from 2 to 4pm. My only panel will be at 2pm on Saturday (in 1A21), but it’s a doozy, so you won’t want to miss it or my very special guest. I also hope you’ll swing by the Empire Stage at 6pm on Saturday to join the extraordinary people behind Y: THE LAST MAN for an action-packed Q&A and screening of their best episode yet. Okay, I think that’s it for now. If we miss each other in NYC, maybe I’ll see you at Baltimore in a few weeks? #bkv #nycc #ythelastman #fxonhulu #imagecomics #majorannouncement #probably
Milkshake loses her mind every time we walk past this bus stop, presumably because she loves the show as much as I do. If you’ve been worried a series about a potentially extinction-level tragedy might be a smidge too dark for you, I hope you’ll check out today’s brilliantly hilarious new episode, which introduces my personal favorite character from our comic, Doctor Allison Mann, pitch-perfectly portrayed by the great Diana Bang. And if you have the psychological fortitude for Twitter, I hope you’ll join showrunner @elizaaclarkw, co-creator @pia.guerra, and just about the whole damn cast for a Twitter Watch Party tonight at 9pm EST. #ythelastman #fxonhulu #graybeard #thispandemichasagedmefortyyears
A few months ago, I started work on a new 300+ page, extremely not-safe-for-work graphic novel that I’ve wanted to make for years with my brilliant PRIDE OF BAGHDAD collaborator Niko Henrichon. It’s called SPECTATORS, and thanks to our new friends at Substack, you’ll be able to read along for FREE as Niko and I create what we hope will be our best work yet. The first ten pages are available right now at EXPLODING GIRAFFE (link in bio), the new digital home for my collaborations with Niko. When you subscribe, you’ll get a few new pages of glorious Henrichon art, lettered by SAGA’s own Fonografiks, delivered to your inbox every Monday, always for free. If you happen to be flush at the moment and want to help support our present and future creator-owned endeavors, there are also some paid tiers where you get lots of extras from us, including process videos from Niko, a limited edition signed copy of my never-before-seen script to the first issue of SAGA, and more…but no pressure. Thanks for considering, and see you in the funny pages! #comics #creatorowned #substack #sleepy
My contributions couldn’t have been more minor to the major masterpiece that is DUNE, but it was an honor to get name-checked in the credits. Director Denis Villeneuve and his fellow screenwriters Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth somehow adapted Frank Herbet’s unadaptable masterpiece, and the spice-fueled cinematic grandeur that this universally outstanding cast and crew created demands to be seen on the big screen (preferably an IMAX theater if you’re lucky enough to live near one). #dune #legendarypictures #HarkonnenHairstyleConsultant Arrakis
New most sacred possession: cast-signed Y poster by creator @pia.guerra! A+ new episode is on @hulu as we speak, so why are you reading this instead of watching it right now?? I’m headed home tonight, but I hope you’ll join the incomparable @amberrosetamblyn and fearless showrunner @elizaaclarkw at 5pm PT / 8pm ET right here for Y: The IG Live Takeover. And thanks again for a wonderful week, NYC. Next up, Baltimore… #ythelastman #fxonhulu #noyoucanthavemyposter
Amazon never puts sweet notes in my packages! Thanks to Caroline at the excellent @quimbysbookstore for including this loveliness in the package with the Chris Ware puzzle I ordered for my wife, who described it as “the most emotional puzzle ever created.” Order yours from the Quimby’s website (or stop by their gorgeous store in Chicago) while supplies last! #puzzleaddicts #supportindependentbookstores
Our story takes a turn. Link, bio, etc.
While I’ve been working on the future of SAGA (largely taco-based), my dear old friend Marcos Martin has been pretty much singlehandedly running Panel Syndicate, hosting new pay-whatever-you-want comics from the likes of @davizzzz, @alexdecampi, @victorsantoscomics, @joekellymoa, and more. But he’s also simultaneously been doing what it pains me to say is the best work of his career on FRIDAY with my longtime writing archenemy Ed Brubaker. And check out how amazing Muntsa Vicente’s colors looks mirrored to your tv! Anyway, link in my bio to download the newest issue, plus lots of other cool comics, with 100% of anything you contribute always going directly to the creators. Thanks. How’s everybody feeling getting back to the grind this Monday? I miss pie. #panelsyndicate #comics #edbrubaker #marcosmartin #vans
No promises, NYC. Signing from 4 to 6pm downstairs in 1A at the con today, hope to see a few of your masked faces there!
Over at Exploding Giraffe (just Google it), Niko Henrichon has sketched this amazing rendition of my 4th grade creation the Orange Knight for one of our lucky paid subscribers. And even if you’re broke, you can still check out our new serialized graphic novel Spectators for free! Thanks for letting me plug, and have a swell weekend. #substack #comics #orangeknight

The 2021 Creators for Creators grant is LIVE! Submissions are open from now until March 31, 2022, and answers to all of your excellent questions about applying can be found at the handy link in my bio. I’m so proud to be a small part of this awesome organization, which has already awarded four of these massive grants to a diverse group of ridiculously gifted comic creators, including 2019 recipients @shobocoker and @shofcoker, whose gorgeous epic NEW MASTERS will be in stores this February. Will you be next…? #creatorsforcreators #makingcomics #grant
The late John Paul Leon was one of my favorite collaborators and one of the greatest comic artists of all time, and I just put a link in my bio to something really special his friends have put together: “THE WINTER MEN is the project John Paul Leon was most proud of. None of its gorgeous artwork has ever been sold or left his Miami studio, except to be scanned for this book. Now, as a tribute to the renowned artist, JP’s closest friends have united to publish an Artist’s Edition of this modern comics masterpiece, with all proceeds proudly going to JP’s wife and daughter. Please pledge your support and join JP’s studio-mates and Project Organizers Tommy Lee Edwards & Bernard Chang, Book Editor & Project Initiator Scott Dunbier, and artists Bill Sienkiewicz, Lee Weeks, Duncan Fegredo, Sean Phillips, Kim Jung Gi, Denys Cowan, Walter Simonson and Joe Quesada (who are all contributing brand new pin-ups) in celebration of an astonishing and inspiring body of work. John Paul Leon’s THE WINTER MEN Artist’s Edition features 184 pages of full-size 12 x 17 scans of all of the original comic art pages, along with never-before-seen concepts, layouts, sketches, unused art and pin-ups.” I can’t wait to have this masterpiece on my shelf, so I hope you’ll please consider clicking that link in my bio to support this incredible project.
Back when I was a temporarily unhoused freelance writer scrambling for comic work, my good friend @dan_kanemoto let me crash on the Ikea futon in his tiny Hell’s Kitchen studio apartment for a few months (!). These days, Dan is an award-winning animator, and he was kind enough to create this totally boss “vanity card” for my dumb production company Future Investigations (which you can also see if you successfully press about 15 buttons in time to not automatically skip the closing credits of Y: The Last Man). So many Easter eggs crammed into 48 frames! And sweet sound design by our genius pal Joe Pleiman. Anyway, if you work in tv and are lucky enough to need one of these things someday, you’d be crazy not to try and hire Dan through the website in his bio, where you can check out more of his awesome stuff. #ythelastman #fxonhulu #vanity
My last appearance anywhere for a good spell, I think! I’ll only be at this consistently awesome show Friday and Saturday, and while my two “VIP” signings from 3 to 5pm each day are already sold out, I’ll also be doing two 100% FREE signings from 1 to 2:30pm on both Friday and Saturday. To accommodate as many readers as possible, let’s please limit it to FIVE ITEMS per visit, thanks. You can also catch me at a panel with the incomparable @cliffchiang on Friday at 5:15pm, where we’ll be talking all things PAPER GIRLS, and where I’ll also be raving to Cliff about his forthcoming Black Label book CATWOMAN: LONELY CITY, easily my favorite DC comic of the past decade. Okay, safe travels to everyone who’s headed out, and I look forward to seeing you this weekend! #baltimorecomiccon #papergirls #yliveson
