Danai Gurira Instagram – Another year around the sun! For those that may not know – my father named me Danai, in commemoration of my birth on this day of love and romance; Danai, in our native tongue, Shona, means to be in love or to love one another. My favorite part of sharing my birthday with #ValentinesDay is making it about loving and valuing girls and women globally and hopefully bringing awareness through #LoveOurGirls to the gender gap we must lessen. Danai Gurira Instagram – I want to invite you all to share your OWN swim stories with me, because the skill of knowing how to swim is so important and can be the difference between life or death. What has your journey been with water and and the skill of swimming? Tag me in your videos using #OurSwimStories and I’ll be resharing some to my page.
I personally was inspired by the Black swim stories I came across while preparing for my chat with @swimone about the work she’s done to increase water safety awareness for young people of color. I want to share these stories with others so that collectively, we can spread awareness of this issue and spur as many people as we can to acquire this vital life skill.
Danai Gurira Instagram – So excited to finally present this conversation with Olympic gold medalist, Simone Manuel @swimone, in support of #LoveOurGirls. Simone is truly the definition of what we at Love Our Girls call “A Girl We Love,” and I want to thank her for taking the time to sit down with me to discuss her journey as a Black woman in the field of competitive swimming. The work she is doing to increase water safety awareness and skills is utterly inspiring and truly saving young lives. I also loved diving into the importance of the portrayal of people of color navigating water in @blackpanther: #WakandaForever.
