Happy Chinese new year everyone.
I experienced my first proper Chinese new year today. Although it isn’t actually tomorrow but my dad is working tomorrow so we moved it a day early.
There are so many traditions and every dish means something different. For example there’s one that means the money and the wallet where you put a mixed of chopped up veggies into a lettuce leaf which represents the wallet 🥬.
On the actual day there wouldn’t be any meat because you mustn’t kill anything. I’m veggie and most of what we had was veggie anyway but the meat eating men in the family said the meat was incredible.
I am not brave when the food isn’t Mediterranean but I loved everything!!
The glutinous rice balls for putting were not for me though 😬…although the inside of them which is a paste of black sesame seeds was amazing and tasted just like a sesame snack!
