Mellissa Laycy Instagram – Deleting…
In life who we hang out with can greatly affect everything from our income to our weight… and so online I’ve decided to choose the life I want promoted to me rather than being fed a default “this is what you should have”.
We are all being influenced by social media whether we like it or not and yesterday I was scrolling, I started feeling really bad about myself, and then it hit me deeply as to why… I felt angry. I was angry because I wonder what I’ve subconsciously been lead to believe or what decisions of mine it has influenced without me even knowing it.
I had been asleep to it all and yet the answer was so simple.
I don’t think I’ve fully realised the effect and detriment this “asleep approach” to social media has had up until now.
I do sometimes wish I could delete all my social media, but the gifts, opportunities, connection and learning that it has given me have been many and for that I’m thankful.
And so yesterday I spent some time scrolling through my home page consciously, deleting any accounts that didn’t resonate with my heart.
I’ve deleted and continue to delete accounts that make me feel like “I’m not enough” or are telling me “you should have this to be happy” be it a type of relationship, body, social life etc
I know what makes me happy and I don’t need to be told it’s something else by someone outside of me, on any level.
So here’s what I did…
I wrote down all the things that bring me joy in life and then started actively searching for and following the accounts and hashtags.
Such as wild living, foraging, body positivity, nature photography, biohacking, acting, romance, health, functional medicine, positive news, personal development, travel etc
I’ve also tapped “see less of this” on posts which promote unhealthy beauty standards and any negative news. Doing this helps fine tune the algorithm to see more of something else.
After one short hour my home feed is feeling a million times more zen.
With the rise of AI we can’t go totally back in time, technology can be a force for good but it’s about using it in way that benefits ourselves the world and community, this is why I’m so excited for @ecowildspirit | Posted on 03/Feb/2023 14:40:06
